How bad can a buffet be? Well we found out today - really bad! Looking more like an apology for a 1970's budget village hall tea, the full range of the 'buffet' comprised two plates of sandwiches, a plate of sausage rolls, slices of pork pie, some dodgy-looking cold mini chicken skewers and a plate of dry-roasted peanuts. £7.95 a head!! Without the amusement of Fawlty Towers, but just as absurd. I would like to point out that there were 23 at the buffet including the organisers of the event. We catered what was requested and 22 of the group were very happy. You had the sole use of the function room as well as the buffet which cctv can see you eating your fair share. To close on the day you were rude and abusive to staff which we do not tolerate. I will be in touch with the organisers and advice them that you are no longer welcome in our pub. Next time please see what you get at the local petrol station for £7.95Best regards Steve Graham Owner

Oh dear, such friendly helpful welcoming service, but the food took forever to arrive and when it did it was terribly disappointing. The fish frenzy was just piles of deep fried “brown”. My falafel burger was more “brown” although my partner said he enjoyed his gammon, egg and chips. So disappointing when it could be so much better.

I cannot praise the food enough, especially the wonderful selection of vegetables. All the roasts are beautifully cooked. The staff are friendly and helpful, and not in the least put out by unusual requests.Whenever I have visiors, I always take them to The George, and all of them always ask to go there when they next visit.

A quintessential pub set in the rolling hills of the glorious Dorset countryside. No pool tables, no slot machines, no juke box - just a warm welcome, well kept beers, local cider and something on the menu boards for everyone to enjoy. Dog and children fr

A 2 night stay for 2 old friends going to the installation of Rev David Bond in Trent. What a welcome! Talk about the landlord and landlady going the extra mile! They don't do food on a Monday. Well they did for us 2 and for 2 other friends. Full choice of the menu as well! Our twin bedded room was spotlessly clean everything you could possibly need was provided. We were even given fresh milk and softened water for the kettle. We were also provided with bottled drinking water. The meal on the Monday night was lovely, cooked by the landlady. Breakfast has lots of choice. Fresh fruit, Yoghurt, Cereals, Orange Juice. Proper coffee and Earl Grey Tea available. The full works cooked breakfast set us up for the day. Lots of toast and good quality Marmalade and Jam. The pub downstairs is "Proper Traditional" Slate floors, Lit Log Burner, 3 Real Ales (well kept). Nearly always Doom Bar, the 2 others vary, chosen with TLC by the landlord. A lovely welcome in the bar by the locals and their dogs. The pub has 2 dogs very friendly and they got on well with all the visiting woofs. I cannot fault this place. Well worth a visit. The 2 letting rooms 1twin, 1king size double are no dogs. However, the Shepherds Hut in the garden, bedroom, bathroom and with its own log burner will soon be up and running. This is going to be Dog Friendly. I will be back soon with husband and dogs! This place is AWESOME!!!Thank you for your review The detail will I’m sure help others make a choice as you have given a very honest overview of this hidden hostelry in the countrysideLook forward to welcoming you back soonCheryl Page

Arrived for a return visit on a busy lunch time the landlord and staff made us feel very welcome the landlord in particular was most helpful to a member of our party, who has a learning disability, in accessing the pool table. Our food order arrived promptly being nicely presented and delicous! We will be visiting again soon and would recommend this lovely pub. The only improvement I could suggest is for there to be a regularly changing specials board for more variety in the menu for regular visitors.

Lovely village inn situated in north Dorset. Pleasant bar staff with a good range of drinks, priced about average. The food looked very nice although we did not eat here. The slight negative would be that the car park doesn't appear big enough. Make sure you book for food, this is a busy venue.

Service was cheerful efficient and friendly and there was a nice buzzy atmosphere. I always find it consistently good here!

First time here, a proper pub! £2.80 for a pint too, served with a smile. Great atmosphere too, even for a school night. Only one problem, only had one ale, so will definitely have to come back to test some more ales.Didn’t check to see if they took card or just cash.
