Having not been in Loftus club for a lot of years I was pleasantly surprised by the new decor and the changes to the place( I would however change the wall colour in main corridor). Went in bar 1st, both barmaids that served me over duration of my visit were extremely friendly and welcoming, unfortunately I can't say the same for the one that was working behind the bar in the lounge were we got seated to eat. Seemed like we were interrupting her mobile phone time, and didn't seem at all happy in her work. Luckily the meal when it came was lovely, homemade chips were gorgeous and the creamy colesaw that came on the side of my lasagne was amazing. I tasted my friends parmo which I'll definately be going back to order next time. A nice menu with the usual things on made by a friendly chef, who came out at one point to see us. Hope local people support the place, I would definately recommend it if your passing

We have been visiting Saltburn for around 5 years now and have always thoroughly enjoyed visiting Vista Mar. It has always been extremely dog friendly and is the perfect location next to the beach. On a warm sunny day the front terrace is perfect, but on a cold windy north east day you like to get inside. We are up for a week on holiday so on Friday, our first day we popped in for a drink and sat at the front where we always sit, the dog settled down under the table and we had three drinks and a snack. On Sunday night we returned. We sat in the same seat, there was no one else in the main seating area as you walk in from the front door and the lady behind the bar said she was very sorry but we had to move to the 'dog friendly area'? So, we walked through the completely empty bar seating area to a tiny area with 3 low tables surrounded by 11 seats and 2 tall stool tables with 4 seats. We were told this was the only space now for dogs! In this part was 2 families of 4 adults, 2 children and a dog who had taken over 2 of 3 low tables so we joined at the 3rd. They were locals and were really disappointed about the change. We agreed and said if there was anyone else with a dog they would struggle to get in. The 2 tall tables are totally non dog friendly and a waste of space, dog owners need to be in control of their pets not high up at bar height. We asked why when dogs were being walked through the front door and through the 'non dog friendly' empty bar area and next to the bar it was strange to let us walk through and not be allowed to sit in it and the lady pointed out there was a seperatly door for dogs......that's was shut and locked!!We returned again last night, Tuesday. We tried the dog entrance and again it was locked so we went to the front door and walked through. The rest of the bar was empty again, yet the 'dog friendly' area was full! Again no one at the tall tables but 2 ladies having a cup of tea and cake taking one low tables.....with no dog!! Then us and another couple taking the other 2 low tables. If anyone else had arrived they would have had to leave or sit outside in the gale force winds.Again we asked the bar staff and they pointed out the change in policy. I said in a month, no one will sit outside for weeks and they would be losing an immense amount of trade as the majority of people in the winter have dogs as they walk on the beach! We have been at Christmas, New Year, Halloween and Febraury over the past 5 years and every time we have spent at least 2 nights in the front bar area of Vista Mar with many other doggie families! We have always been made to feel so welcome and have usually ate lunch or an evening meal with our dog there but this past week despite it not being the staffs fault feel the owners no longer want dog trade. I can understand if it was carpeted but the whole area is wooden floors so if people want to sit without dogs let them have the smaller area.Sadly we planned to return on Thursday for a meal but doubt we will get in so The Ship or The Spa Hotel will probably be getting our money and food orders. Vista Mar will lose out on a good £80 and no doubt many many others will be in the same position over the next few months. I would love to sit down and chat to the owners to try to understand as a long standing visitor why there was a need to change it??Such a shame. Its really quite simple . We have invested a great deal of money in refurbishing the Vista Mar with quality seating, leather sofas and expensive chairs. The damage caused by dogs, the constant sand and dirt trailed in from the beach and the smell of wet dogs, has added to our decision to limit the 'dog ' area. What you will not be aware of is that we also get a lot of complaints of the wet dog smell, sand and dog hairs on the furniture. Combine this with the rules and regulations for restaurant hygiene regarding dogs, it is fairly clear as to why we have done this. Once again - we do welcome dogs, however we cater for both dog lovers and non dog lovers. The vista Mar is a restaurant with a bar and not the local dog kennels. If you feel that you would be better suited to going to the Spa or Ship, then that's absolutely fine. The one thing that I will not do is be told how to run MY business. I have been in this trade for a long time, and have made a good living doing things my way, and apart from the odd complaint from people like yourself that have not thought of others and what their views may be, have managed ok. Complaints such as yours usually come from those that ' know better, and would do things different if they owned it ' Well there are plenty of similar businesses available out there if you fancy trying it and show us all how it should be done. We can then see what sort of state your business will be, if left full of wet sandy dogs, dogs that are not properly house trained, owners that feed their dogs and leave the mess etc etc. We are, at the end of the day, in business to make a profit and not as you seem to think, a public service to give shelter to those walking their dogs.

Has a captive market as the centre of the original smuggling hamlet. Food ordering and service is very much chain restaurant style and the coffee machine "had broken" so only instant coffee was available. The much vaunted range of real ales was disappointing and would seem to have been not kept by an experienced cellarman. Nevertheless a pewrfectly adequate refreshment stop. I was a little daunted by the table notice cautioning a 45 min to 1 hour wait for food on occassions. Enough said.

An early evening on a Tuesday in September. Hadn’t been in the place in probably 25 years, but had heard some excellent comments. There were 7 of us, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Good generous tasty portions served swiftly by pleasant and efficient staff. The dining room soon became full, and the place was busy but this didn’t seem to affect how quickly our meals came out. Prices were very sensible, and was all left stuffed. A popular place- we can see why!Deffo recommend.

A belated birthday meal for the 3 of us whilst away on an Easter weeks holiday. The food was absolutely superb! I had the monkfish skewers and my husband had the beef brisket! Both so fresh and delicious. Real homemade chicken nuggets went down a treat with our 9 year old. All of us had the homemade chips (the best I’ve had in a very long time). Desserts were fab, choc brownie with ice cream, lemon crunch and 2 types of Roxby jersey ice cream. A really welcoming atmosphere made it a really enjoyable evening so much so we have booked to go back!

This place is a gem. We couldn’t eat there on the Saturday evening as they were fully booked but, even though they don’t take bookings for the bar area as they couldn’t accommodate Saturday, they booked us a table for Sunday lunch. Two really lovely guys run the place, made to feel so welcome, fuss made of my dog (with biscuits) and a freshly cooked Sunday lunch. If I lived nearby, I’d be there weekly. Thank you, we will be back. Andrea and Bronte.
