Dined here again last week and we always enjoy it. We both travel forty miles from opposite directions to meet up for lunch and have never been disappointed. We had a lovely table by the window and service was efficient, professional yet friendly. We always enjoy the daily specials. We always share a dessert as we are so full. Easy to park in the road. Looking forward to returning.

The new management seem lovely, the food great & the Sunday carvery great value & unmissable. Five or so of us have been coming here for years, & we all agree - we really don't like the harsh eco lighting, bright white walls & stark new make-over generally. It was a cosy, country local, but even the snug bar has a strip light in one part and a TV - surely one TV is enough? you can't get away from it... We'd still come for the Sunday roasts, but not an evening drink. It's a real shame - hope they fix it.

This visit was for three adults on a busy Friday evening. Parking was available at the front of the building. There was a large party in the rear area and we were found a quiet table at the front, and we were able to look into the kitchen.We found the whole experience excellent. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive. The food was very tasty, not your usual, 'base sauce with extras thrown in'. We could watch it all being cooked fresh. My wife's king prawns were slightly undercooked, but this was quickly rectified with apologies (however, lost one 'star'). The chicken dishes were perfect, as were the vegetables.Good selection of drinks.We will certainly put this on the 'go again' list.Dear Richard, Thank you for your detailed review, we value your feedback :-) Apologies again for the undercooked prawns and we have noted this down to ensure it does not happen again. We were passing through and chose this place for Sunday lunch as it was listed as dog- friendly and it looked like it had a lot of greenery around it for a nice post lunch walk. We were not disappointed. Very friendly welcome, nice ambience, offered the dog water. Good menu choice- the usual Sunday roasts offered ( I had a lovely vegetarian Chestnut roast with all the trimmings incl veg gravy and a great yorkshire pudding) and hubby had steak which was a good size and he said was perfectly cooked. Great chips too! Yummy dessert choice. Nice lakeside walks nearby. Will definitely come again if in the area. We both had two courses, and bill was just over £40 incl two pints of beer so we thought this was good value.

A friendly gastro pub in a pretty area.The service was very friendly and efficient.The food was tasty and plentiful.Perhaps it is a little too noisy on a Saturday evening, so I will try again midweek.Dear Stephen Many thanks for your review. this delightful hostelry which has featured in many TV programmes serves excellent food at reasonable rates and always makes you welcome with the feeling that you are a valued customer. The staff are consistently charming and friendly with a lovely garden area as well.

The Black Horse is fairly local to me and I have always accepted that it can be a bit pricey but last night came as something of a shock. I had friends from Surrey visiting and we decided to eat at the Black Horse before moving on to Hedgerley. The first jolt for me was when I ordered the first round of drinks for the 4 of us (3 pints of ale and a gin and tonic) and the total came in at £25! We then ordered food off the menu, me opting for the chilli which, I am sorry to say, was nothing special and at £15.75 it cost about double what I would expect to pay elsewhere. Also curious was that it came with green beans; in fact, everybody's meal came with green beans! (I wonder if someone over ordered on produce.) To be fair, though, my friends opted for pricier meals than me and they all said how good their food was, so I am only reporting my experience. I like the Black Horse very much and I will be returning in future, since I live so close, but I think I will eat at home first next time.

This retaurant has an extensive menu to cater for all tastes, attentive and efficient staff and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. My family eat here regularly and the food is of a consistently high standard. There are a range of menus - bar food, plus an extensive range of options for a more formal meal. Everything arrives quickly, pipng hot and well presented. The food is tasty and interesting. Love the steak, the confit duck and the mussels. The pistachio souffle is wonderful.The restaurant is sufficiently large to usually guarantee a seat, although it is worth booking at weekends. There is also a good seating area outside for when the sun shines. The restaurant is attached to an equally pleasant pub area, spacious and well decorated. Every dish adds unexpected ingredients and presents itself in a unique style that makes the food in this gastro pub exceptional. The whole kitchen brigade are to be complemented.Coupled with a young service team that is both knowledgable and has personality, this is an excellent place to dine out.Ciara in particular is a great example of the wait staff. Unfaltering standards over several years is a compliment to Manager Wesley. Highly recommended by this experienced reviewer.
