Museum and Garden of Peteris Upitis

Large open air garden, divided in areas - lilac garden, long rows of cherry, apple and pear, and it claims here they grow most northern apricots! At the entrance you can buy also local tasty gifts (I saw lilac ice cream, juices), lady was very smiling and inviting. Though we came during cold time and season just started, so we enjoyed only blooming apples and cherries. You can walk around (not everywhere are paved roads, some areas reachable via grass and ground), so it will be better to wear appropriate snickers or shoes. There is a small stage and they state there are classical music concerts during lilac season, so check it in advance on their pages. We also used Google maps to navigate here, and it brought us wrong direction - we came up in private living area. The right address is here in Tripadvisor - Graudu 1. We plan to come again few weeks later and invited our friends to pay attention to this place! In advance you may see Old Square with an interesting water fountain, Livonian ruins on the hill and downstairs a small city park along the pound.

Rundale Palace Museum (Rundales Pils)

Reviewed By Beto79 - Lille, France

The visit of the Rundale Palace was the highlight of my first visit to Latvia. I did not went with a private tour; I went using public transportation using information posted at TA. I am very glad I did because this allowed me to explore the sight at my own pace. Furthermore, none of the tour-guided people visited the exhibition "From Gothic Style to Art Nouveau" probably because it was not included in the ticket bought by the tour operator. There is a discount in the combined ticket if you buy it online (day ticket) For me Rundale palace is one of the most stunning palaces I have visited. They did an extraordinary job in restoring the splendor of the palace. Each room is opulent profusely decorated with beautiful objects and furniture. Once you finished with the second floor go to the basement and visit the special exhibition. It felt like I was in the TEFAF (The European Fine Art Faire), I was alone surrounded by an extraordinary exquisite collection of objects that went from Gothic style to Art Nouveau. It took me more than one hour as I perused the porcelain, the furniture and the ornaments. You do not want to miss that. The gardens were beautiful but not extraordinary as the grass was dry and it seems that they need some maintenance. I ate extremely well at the cafeteria; the soup of the day was really yummy and they served a large portion, the main was chicken which was good and the dessert was excellent. Service was a little bit slow, but very friendly, something that you have to appreciate when you are in Latvia. If you decide to go by your own; I recommend to take an early bus. You can buy it online. The palace opens at 10h00, so you can avoid some of the hectic tours that become more present during the day. You need to go to Bauska, and there you need to catch another bus to Rundale. Beware that there are very few buses between Bauska and Rundale, so never take the last one. The down side of going without tour-guide is that you miss all the context; you need to do some research on your own as the leaflets do not dwell into the historical context of the palace. The visit to the palace could take you the whole day (as if you were in Versailles).

Nature Park in Tervete

Reviewed By ilzeh2014 - Roskilde, Denmark

Great place for family with children! This time we only took the small part with the enchanted fairy tale forest with the tiny dwarf homes and the lookout tower. But we have been here several times. There are however, little to none information in english. We got a small map at the cash desk and no actual information about the park. The PR and information lever of the park could be better. Home page was also lacking some general information. Fx we would have liked to view a map before we arrived, so we could plan our trip. However, the park was good, cheap and we can highly recommend to rent one of those carts where you can have bags (and/or) kids. It costs 3,50 for the first hour and then 1,50 euros for each next hour. It was money well spent and the cart was easy to drag. There is also a small train that you can use to travel from one spot to another. We ended up not using it, despite we had one elderly person with us that normally would be having hard time walking these distances. But from one of the employees at the park we got information that from the spots where the train stops it's possible to call the train so that it would come and pick your group up. The level of information both at the premises and home page needs to improve. Park itself is fine and great fun for kids!

Worth the hunt.. actually quite easy to spot the golden domes from the railway station. Beautifully restored church. Was earmarked for demolition in the early eighties, but luckily it wasn't.

Jaunmoku Pils

We bad the best time @Jaunmoku pils, once we arrived our room was set up for romantic getaway with a nice cheese and fruit platter, bottle of bubbly and rose bouquet. Staff was very friendly, chatty and made us feel very welcome. We started with a nice walk around the manor and it’s gardens, once arrived at the bar we discovered they have homemade ice cream that we could not resist but try, we had strawberry and mint ice cream it was lovely and full of flavor. Then on the top floor there is a nice museum about forest and animals, for me it was better then the museums in the Capital Rīga. Then we had this amazing dinner table set only for us at the veranda where we had 6 course dinner, all was fresh and tasty. After dinner we went for another small walk and went up the tower. Room was very comfortable and cosy, love the deco and furniture. In the morning we had breakfast outside in the garden, we could choose from the menu cooked breakfast and again if was fresh and lovely. Staff again was super friendly and suggested us more things to do :)

The branch of the Riga Motor Museum in Bauska

The Riga Motor Museum’s branch exhibition in Bauska is situated alongside many other Zemgale region tourist attractions like the monumental ruins of the 15th century Livonia Order Castle and the distinguished treasury of Baroque and Rococo art and architecture in Latvia – the Rundale Palace. The car museum in Bauska, reconstructed in 2011, introduces visitors with the development of farm machinery in Latvia, car and motorcycle history of the 20th century, soviet all-wheel drive vehicles, widely used in the countryside, and combat vehicles from the 2nd World War.
