Yokosuka Museum of Art

The Art museum focuses on contemporary art in Japan. This includes artists of new and old. Allow about two hours to see everything that the museum offers. Wear walking shoes because the art work is displayed in several buildings. The harbor is directly across from the museum. A small restaurant at the museum allows one to enjoy a cup of tea while viewing the harbor. If you are coming from downtown, take bus number 24. It gets you very close to the museum.

The highlight of my visit to Yokosuka - an informative and lovingly maintained icon of Japanese naval history. Staff were knowledgable and passionate and spoke good English. Highlight was the exhibit below deck dedicated to the Battle of Tsushima. Naval history enthusiast or not, I thoroughly recommend spending a few hours on board this magnificent and unique ship.

What more can I say. Excellent place to buy a wide variety of fresh seafood. It also has a nice selection of bakery items and fresh fruit and vegetables. Not necessarily a tourist destination, but if you live in the area it is a great place to grab some lunch or take home some fish for dinner.
