What to do and see in Yerevan, Armenia: The Best Food Tours

June 26, 2021 Nobuko Falco

Long fought over by warring empires, the city of Yerevan survived centuries of foreign occupation, finally becoming independent with the fall of the Soviet Union. This capital city, a center of Armenian culture, has celebrated its freedom with a flurry of construction and a growing population. Despite this push forward, history survives in Yerevan - The Institute of Ancient Manuscripts houses books dating back to the 9th century, and the ruins of the Erebuni Fortress, built in 782 BC, still stand.

Arman helped us to design the wine tour we requested outside of Yerevan and it fulfilled all of our expectations. We were picked up promptly and spent the day at three wonderful wineries: ArmAs, Schuchmann and Van Ardi. We are California wine collectors and asked to visit only the best wineries and to sample their best wines. The wineries were very impressive as were their tours and wines. We also had a lovely lunch overlooking the vineyards at the ArmAs Winery. We were also excited to learn that each winery distributes in the US so that we will be able to order our favorites that tasted. We ended the day with a sommelier in a Yerevan wine bar tasting Nagorno Karabach wines and providing our feedback to the sommelier. These are wines that are difficult to find to taste in Armenia and we were grateful to have had the chance. A wonderful day! Thanks, Arman.

At the end of June I booked a private 2 day, 1 night tour to Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) for early September with Bari Tour Armenia via Viator. The tour looked good, had everything I wanted on it, and was at the right price. Today, August 14, less than a month before my trip, I got a message from Viator that my tour had been canceled. I contacted Viator and they told me they had received a message from Bari saying that I had chosen to cancel the tour (I did not.). We had a contract. I paid and it was done (until it wasn't). Now I have to scramble to find an alternative, if that is even possible on short notice. I'm sure I'm just another customer to them But, this trip was important to me. And this makes both Bari and Viator look bad. Very, very angry about this. Will not trust Bari again, and Viator will be lucky if I ever book with them again.

From the beginning Karen and other staff were responsive and detailed about services offered and were flexible. Arrangements were made for a several day tour online and through Whatsapp. Karen is down to earth, he listens and does what he can to help you. During the first tour there were some various issues, at the beginning of the tour everything was good but as it went on things started happening. Karen fixed the problems immediately and the next day everything went as planned. Although there was a hiccup, the company is able to respond quickly and resolve issues, which is very important when looking for a reputable company. Nothing always goes perfect, but how a company recovers from it is what counts. Karen, the owner, is very good. And even though there were issues, problems were resolved fairly and quickly. I would not hesitate to use Juva again and do highly recommend them. There are many services in Armenia but finding a trustworthy company had been hard, but I know I made the right decision. The tours were great, I am so glad I came to Armenia and arranged a tour with Juva. They made a schedule for me and were flexible, there were several plans at the beginning and a few things were changed, but it was all for the better, they are very good at arranging things to make the experience best for the customer. If you are looking and looking and looking, but cannot find a decent service, you need to look no further. Juva is the answer you have been looking for. Forget those big group tours, I had planned to do one also before I found Juva as I almost gave up. But I am so glad I did not book with one of the big tour groups, the experience would not have been good.
