The walled ancient city of Kashgar has been rebuilt with roads paved and reproduction of century old mud brick houses. The style and architecture is different from anywhere in China or central Asia. Unlike other cities in Xinjiang China, there is no over presence of police with machine guns and long baton, but security cameras are everywhere. No cars inside the walled except the garbage collection trucks and goods delivery vans, both electric. Plenty of nice restaurants serving Uyghur cuisine and local brewed beer. Singing and dancing everywhere as July is the peak tourist month. There are many day trips from Kashgar to the nearby tourist sites in the desert or a 2 days side trip to the Tajik village of Tashkurgan in the Pamir Plateau near the Pakistani border. Kashgar is a must for the Silk Road visit.

The Silk Road was a commercial road for transportation, trade and cultural exchanges between ancient China and foreign countries, and the Hexi Corridor was the throat for the 'Silk Road' to go west. Follow the ancient camel fleet through the place to re-take the ancient Silk Road, looking for the most beautiful scenery outside the fortress. Feel the distance of the Silk Road and savor the depth of history.

I have travelled with YAT Travel since 2018 and the places that I went with them are North-East China, Harbin, Heilongjiang, Guizhou, West Sichuan and the most recent one that I went is the Silk Road and North Xinjiang. All together they were 3 long tours, all covering more than 20 days in each trip. I find this travel agency reliable and they deliver what were promised in the itineraries. They guides that were assigned to us are passionate and responsible in their duties..namely Zach and Jason whom I have the privilege to meet. Both of them went all the way out to make sure their guests are comfortable and well taken care of. If not for the pandemic the whole world is facing now, I would have gone with YAT for my fourth trip and that is to Yunnan Photography Tour in March this year. When the trip was cancelled due to the pandemic our deposits were promptly refunded by the company to our much relieved. If you plan to see China as a traveller and not seeing the usual touristy stuff which is often jam packed and very commercialised I would highly recommend YAT Travel. They will bring you to see the real interesting China and not forgetting to mention the delicious local food they bring to.

An amazing trip to Xinjiang: I’d longed to go to Xinjiang and the west of China and I wasn’t disappointed. I found the Silk Road Expeditions website and emailed them. Prompt email correspondence from Waheed who organised a guided tour just for me due to low tourist numbers. Met him at Kashgar airport and we were off: three days looking around Kashgar and a road trip along the Karakoram Highway; truly stunning scenery which for me was a highlight. Kashgar is very different to other towns in China so it was very interesting to appreciate the difference there in both culture and architecture. The animal trading market, street markets, old town, mosque, Concubine tomb, all interesting places to visit and Waheed was my driver and guide and happily explained about these places as we went along. It all went smoothly and I’d recommend contacting Waheed and talking to him about what you want to see and do. After Kashgar I flew to Urumqi and had a second guide and driver - also excellent and very knowledgeable. What he doesn’t know about the local area and history isn’t worth knowing! We spend only a little time in Urumqi itself and then went to Turpan; more stunning scenery on the drive, ancient villages, Buddhist tombs and caves, markets, grape drying houses, again, there’s a lot to see and do. The final day we added in Heavenly Lake - I feel this is a must see, if scenery and nature is your thing then it’s not to be missed. It had snowed the day before we visited and it was like a scene out of Narnia! I feel this lake would be wonderful to see in any season though. Maybe this should be in the itinerary rather than a last minute add on; I had a late flight out of Urumqi on my final day and so added this in at extra cost; we maybe should have included it from the beginning so there was no waste of time on the final day. A trip to remember, great memories and a stack of stunning photos!

Delicious and delicate. The food in Guangzhou is the best. The old town is worth visiting if you want to know history and cultures of Guangzhou. Travelling in Guangzhou is not so difficult except for some language problems until recently the GZ government has had an interpretation hotline(+8620960169), which can provide great service for public affairs and government services. I used several times taking taxi and asking for directions, the interpreters are quite professional.
