Walks around Wotton-under-Edge

Reviewed By bazb949 - Watford, United Kingdom

A simple, there-and-back dog walk taking in Newark Park house and grounds. Just follow the Cotswold Way out of the village. A fairly steep climb through woods and up a track before branching off across fields to arrive at Newark's car park area. A modest entry fee gets you into the grounds (a welcome tea/coffee room with outside seating) where there's a choice of three, marked walks affording views and a chance to talk to the lambs. The gardens of the house are delightful and it's worth popping in to the house itself (leave the dogs outside). We spent the best part of a day out as the weather was glorious. The return, downhill, walk is much quicker, retracing our steps and taking in a path along side the stream and back into Valley Road. A very pleasant way to appreciate the English countryside and take in a little bit of history, too. Recommended!

The Plough Micro Pub

Reviewed By BarryButton - Gloucester, United Kingdom

Just dropped in by chance as we drove to Wotton-under-Edge and so glad we did . We sat out in the sun with a glass of fantastic guest cider (a 7.5 proof from Bristol apparently) with plenty of locals (and their dogs) who obviously appreciate the pub and visit regularly. We had to stay outside of course, but if you went inside to use the loos the interior looked very welcoming, neat and characterful. Brilliant service and atmosphere there, and we plan many a return visit!

What an amazing venue to do for a paranormal investigation! SO much energy and history there. My absolute favourite part was actually funny enough we were on our break and I was sitting at the table in John Humphrey's part of the house having a few salt and vinegar crisps and I for some reason I felt like there was some energy around me. So like most investigators do I picked up one of our K2 metres and asked if John liked salt and vinegar crisps and is that why I felt someone around me and the metre went all the way to red! So I decided I might as well record in case we got any other responses and omg! We had almost a 8 minute conversation with the most intelligent responses ever! It was an absolute pleasure to speak with him as I always wished I could have met him while he was still alive but now I truly can say I have met him in spirit! I have the full video and I would love to send it to Caroline and hope maybe she will see this and contact me so I can send it over to her. Your father was an amazing man Caroline and we learned so much about his amazing life that night. xxx
