The Wells Reserve at Laudholm is open every day from 7 am to sunset, with 7 miles of trails through field, forest, and salt marsh to an undeveloped beach. It's a favorite spot for birders and wildlife lovers, photographers and artists, walkers and runners, natural resource managers and history buffs. Each year, the Wells Reserve offers nearly 200 education programs for every audience from K to gray. Guided walks, camps for kids, workshops, and lectures are regular offerings. The reserve hosts several fundraising events annually, including the Laudholm Nature Crafts Festival on the weekend after Labor Day. The site is one of 29 National Estuarine Research Reserves across the country, from Alaska to Puerto Rico and from Southern California to New England. Each reserve supports coastal research, education, and training. In Wells, support comes from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and members of the nonprofit Laudholm Trust. I’m a member, volunteer and on the Board of Directors. Wells Reserve is one of 29 National Estuarine Research Reserves in the US partially funded by NOAA. Their mission is research, education and stewardship. The 2,250 acre site is home to two estuaries, beautiful trails and a historic 300 year old farm. If you’re in our area don’t miss it.

This very well maintained and flat path took us through a wooded area where we could see the estuaries and marsh. It was quiet and beautiful and hardly anyone was there.

the Wells Beach is not a commercialized hotspot where you'll find lots of shops or boardwalks to walk along. When you go out to the beach on the right is rocks that will come out more and more as the tide goes out , with really interesting tide pools and great places to look for crabs , to the left is all smooth so as the tide goes out it's all just straight Beach. The sand is soft the breeze is wonderful.there is a place that sells ice cream and a couple of restaurants that are in hotels there's a beach store that sells things you might have forgotten and drinks and coffee but it is a little expensive. The trolley goes up and down and you should use it it's only a dollar one way, they only take cash.

Stayed at Drake's Island resort, which is right down the road. This is the best beach by far and for locals. So if you want to avoid the crowded touristy beaches...run here. Dog friendly before 8 and after 6.
