A big thanks to Arto for his support in preparing and providing great logistics and advice for a 6 day canoe trip in autonomy, 5 days round Kolovesi and 1 day back to Oravi with my dad. Despite very late in the season, Arto made this trip possible by renting the equipment we needed. The result was 2 days of snow and 4 days of rain but a wonderful exploration of Kolovesi National Park and the beautiful Wilderness of central Savonia, and great fishing! To all out there dreaming of the great Finnish canoe escape this is the spot! Kiittos Arto.

there is a spectacular cafe on the top with agreat view.i assume in the summer time that would be great.it is a structure older than 60 years.

This 'museum' is a large collection of various sorts of mechanical musical instruments from different timeperiods and countries, and many of the instruments are quite interesting, either very kitschy or whimsical. The visitors are given a guided tour, and we had two guides, the first of which was a young man who was funny in a relatively harmless way, although with some male chauvinistic jokes, but the second guide was way out of line. He put on a great show which was less about the instruments but more about his own political opinions and personal history, and he was quite intimidating towards the visitors! It was so outrageous and politically incorrect that it was sort of entertaining for a while but the children in the audience were very confused about his antics, and after a while it started to get tiresome for the rest of us too. He put down all the nationalities, former and current presidents of Finland and many other countries and so on and so on. I cannot really recommend this place for visitors even though the exhibits are interesting and the tour was partly entertaining. At least more sensitive people are better off staying away from this place. One thing is that if you go, you better take earplugs with you as some of the instruments make a really loud sound, and then you can also shut out the tirades of the older guide.. This is not really a professional museum, but a private collection where the owner seems to take advantage of his more or less 'captive audience' and vent out his personal beliefs and problems to innocent visitors who have no idea what to expect. It's a pity.
