Sholayar Dam

Reviewed By Muguncjb2015 - Chennai (Madras), India

Sholayar Dam, in Tamil nadu state, is located at about 20 km from Valparai and 80 km from Pollachi. Actually there are two Sholyar dams exist at a distance of 20 km. The one in Tamil nadu where tourists are allowed is called Upper Sholayar dam. Whereas, the other is located in Kerala, called as the Lower Sholayar Dam. To access lower Sholayar dam one needs prior permission. Both dams are surrounded by Sholayar forest. I have visited both the dams. Upper Sholayar dam is one of the biggest in India. In fact, it is considered to be the second deepest dam in the continent of Asia. Ride along the dam side is really likeable. When you travel from Valparai to Chalakudi in Kerala you will cross this Upper Sholayar dam.

360 Degrees had the lush of green view and fresh air filled around you .. There are about 40 hairpin bends from the Base of Aliyar to Valparai . We stayed at 28th Hairpin bend ... So drove the next two days up the hill to valparai - Advise is if you are driving for the 1st time in this ghat's - better to reach your destination before 7pm . We had a very bad Foggy night and could see nothing infront of us (Hat's OFF to APPU, for driving us safe down to the estate bungalow) On the way down :) we saw a big big Bison welcoming us ... One of our frnd in Valparai said - They see Lepords very commonly roaming within the city limits just as we see cat's ...... Its a very good place for bird watching - but for that you need to have a guide or a person who knows the place.

1. If you are visiting valparai means dont miss to visit balaji temple even you dont have believe in god. 2. This is the most peaceful spot in valparai. 3. We need to climb on the top of the hill to visit this temple, this is a private temple, we need to park the car and walk nearly one kilometre to reach the temple. 4. Clicking photos are not allowed inside the temple, there is a security keep telling you not to click photos. 5. During walking you can take pics before reaching temple which more pleasant. 6. I recommend to visit the temple on evening which open on 3pm to 6pm in evening and 7.30am to 11am in morning.

Chinna Kallar Falls

Reviewed By VinoOne - Chennai (Madras), India

This place is called the chirapunji of south India, but there was no rain when we visited. There is an entry fee of 130 per head at the check post and the road to the falls about 3-4 kms away is very bad and can be driven very slowly, so be very careful to drive. There is a bus service till Chinnakalar falls. From the parking lot, one has to walk about 600 meters to reach the falls in the forest area. The leech menace is only in rainy season. You will be accompanied by a Guide as It is frequented with elephants. and the view of the small waterfall is superb.Bathing is not allowed as it is a forest area . The view from the hanging bridge is superb. Can spend 15-20 over here.Recommended.
