Mercado del Puerto

At one time a train station, this wrought-iron structure is now a market housing an array of restaurants that specialize in meat and seafood dishes.

Reviewed By Pantherboy - Georgetown, Australia

The Mercado del Puerto is a thriving, bustling, fun mixture of restaurants, souvenir shops, stalls and lots of music, especially on the weekends during the afternoon. Most of the people who work there seem to be having a lot of fun (at least they were each time I was there). Mostly indoor, but plenty outdoor as well. Lots of atmosphere. Loved the place.

Parque Rodo Fair

This park is wonderful, and the Sunday market only makes it better. Crafts of all types, manufactured goods, clothes, toys, books. In the winter there doesn't seem to be any produce, but I've heard there's an organic market adjacent to it in the summer.

Mercado de los Artesanos - Mercado de la Plaza

Every time I visit Montevideo I make the Mercado de los Artisanos my first stop for Uruguayan-made gifts to take home. Wonderful selection and reasonable prices as well. They have another location near the port market, but the Plaza Cagancha location is much larger and better. Highly recommend!!

Feria de Tristan Narvaja

Reviewed By PJBS - Newtown, United Kingdom

One of the best, most local, genuine things to do in town. Seemingly miles of stalls of all kinds, food, clothes, antiques, trinkets, mate cups (of ccourse), tools, toilets, pasta machines, gemstones, everything including the kitchen sink. Wander for hours for free on a Sunday morning. Up Tristan Narvaja and across several cross streets in both directions and down again on another street. Watch locals earnestly sifting through the stacks of goods for their shopping. Food stalls if you get hungry. Bring your mate. Everyone else does! Buy a metal mate straw (bombilla) to take home and save the planet from plastic.
