What to do and see in Upminster, England: The Best Things to do Good for Kids

July 17, 2021 Madelene Haan

Upminster is a suburban town in east London, England, and part of the London Borough of Havering. Located 16.5 miles (26.6 km) east-northeast of Charing Cross, it is one of the locally important district centres identified in the London Plan, and comprises a number of shopping streets and a large residential area. Historically in Essex, Upminster was originally a rural village and formed an ancient parish. Although peripheral to London, the town has good transport links; it was first connected to central London by rail in 1885 and has a terminal station on the London Underground network. The economic history of Upminster is characterised by a shift from farming to garden suburb. As part of the suburban growth of London in the 20th century, Upminster significantly expanded and increased in population, becoming part of Hornchurch Urban District in 1934, and has formed part of Greater London since 1965.

Really fun weekend! We camped in our own tents, Staff are really friendly they come by every now and then to check up on you. The activity pass is great value for money however it would have been nice if more activities were open some of the closed activities didn’t seem to make sense (Covid) and it would have been ideal if the end time was a little longer even just 1700 considering activities are suspended for lunch (45 mins) I would definitely return we were a party of 4 adults and a 6 year old, everyone had tremendous fun! The evening entertainment for the children is a bonus too! On the last night they had arts and crafts, marshmallow toasting, a disco and then a movie. It’s a secure environment so the children are afforded some independence and can roam through the site as they wish. There’s an amazing adventure playground with lots of climbing towards the back of the site which keeps them busy once the activities are over. Toilet and shower facilities are decent, spotted the cleaner mid morning on the second day. I can’t fault the place really none of us wanted to go home. Looking forward to returning with the rest of the family. I didn’t get all of the names but Callum was our host he was lovely, the climbing team namely the gentleman and the long haired tall young lady (her partner works on the paddle boards), the kayak team especially the young man (his partner works on the high ropes) so Lewis, friendly and helpful, Thank you all, looking forward to our return with and without the children!!

We arrived in the morning and Parked the car £2 all day, we went down one of the Trails that go through the woods, loads of lovely Birds in the tree's out in the fresh air, there were lots of other people all on different Trails with their children, the Car Park is very large with many cars, I would say it is a cheap day out in the Country and Woods.

We go here quite a lot, it is near the shops so we pop- in to sit and watch all the ducks especially when you feed them, a lot of Families take the children along and give the some seed for the ducks, on hot days in the Summer it can get quite crowded, with all the cut-backs flowers have been replaced by flowering shrubs.

Myself and my young family have been going here for the last 5 years . We always have a lovely time here . There are always senior members of staff supervising weekend staff , which are all polite and great at helping with the couple of birthday parties we have had . We visited on 24 th November , this visit made us realise how difficult and very rude some member of the public can be . We arrived at 2.30pm along with a very aggressive rude elderly lady . From the moment she arrived she was awlful , we did nearly go home , but thought it proberbly wouldn’t last . We were wrong , we had to sit very close to this party as their reserved seating was next to the only other table available. I’m not sure why they stayed as them seemed to be complaining about everything ! The very professional manager tried to reason with them but their language just got worse . My husband witnessed a man call a mature woman working behind the food counter a disgusting name . The manager then asked them to leave as she would not tolerate the abuse. They wouldn’t ! The grandmother then started to poke this lady so she then said she was calling the police and they were getting physically abusive as well . Other families were watching this as were we , I must admit I I had to stop my husband from getting involved as to back up the manager . Their language and aggressive behaviour was not acceptable and totally inappropriate for a children’s play centre . Thankfully they did go ! The atmosphere in the whole centre changed and we continued to enjoy our afternoon . Whatever reason they had to complain about it should not have been carried out with verbal and physical abuse . The centre was glad to see them go . I applaud the staff in the way they dealt with the situation . Timbuk2 has had a massive makeover recently on the play equipment and is spotlessly clean , as much as a place can be with 100 or so children running around . Yes we were aware of their latest food rating but discussed this over the phone before we attended on Sunday and as the council also states it was down to a boiler not working but measures had been put in place . This has been rectified and the rating has gone back up to its original 5! ( this does not show for a week on the council site ) We look forward to going again this weekend especially for the Paninis and best chips around . Well done Timbuk2 for keeping your call in a difficult situation ????
