Of all the distilleries visited on Speyside and Islay , this tour was the best . The guide was knowledgeable and informative, the distillery was medium sized and family owned and managed which is refreshing among all the large corporate owned businesses.

I decided to give the WSET level 1 course ago after speaking to Mark at the Cambridge Food festival and I'm glad I did. Although I could have jumped straight to the level 2 course (you don't need level 1 as Mark will point out), I'm glad that I did this day course to get familiar with the basics of wine. I enjoyed the pace of the course and how Mark delivered it. He has a great deal of knowledge and a clear passion for them. There is nothing pretentious or snobbish at all, just a good atmosphere and lots of fun. We got to taste a few wines along the way but importantly, we learnt how to spit the wine out - I’ll save the swallowing of the wine for the evenings! Level 1 does give you a good depth of the basics and in one day I certainly came out far knowledgeable than before. I would recommend this course to anyone who wanted to feel a bit more competent when it comes to wine, it also would make a nice gift. Thanks for the fantastic day and look forward to booking onto level 2!

Definitely the best sparklingly wine tasting experience we’ve had in England! Led by the owner, she gave a wonderful short tour of the vineyard and a highly entertaining and informative guided wine tasting set in the excellent new tasting room with spacious indoor and outdoor areas. The 3 sparkling wines on offer are excellent - definitely on a par with champagne. Also try the generous sharing cheese platter! All in all a well deserved 5 star experience

Greyfriars Vineyard

Under new management since October 2010, we are a commercial vineyard producing award winning English Sparkling wine. Greyfriars was originally planted in 1989 and has been producing great grapes and wines for over 20 years. We took over in late 2010 with the aim of expanding the vineyard dramatically, producing stunning English sparkling wine and building a state of the art winery, cellar and tasting room. We are well on the way to that goal. We have planted over 30 acres of new vines, predominantly the three classical Champagne grape varieties; Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. This will enable us to create a small range of spectacular English sparkling wines reflecting the unique local soil conditions, climate and heritage of the Surrey North Downs. The Downs in southern England are blessed with similar geological and soil conditions to the Champagne region in France. At Greyfriars we have a clay/loam topsoil over several hundred feet of wonderful free draining Cretaceous chalk. The chalk was originally deposited over a hundred million years ago when this entire area was submerged under a tropical sea. The highest part of the estate offers splendid views towards the South Downs and east towards Guildford and beyond. In September 2013 we released the first wine made entirely by our own fair hands, a delicious sparkling rose, the first release of many. By the end of the decade we will be producing 100,000 bottles a year.

This was a truly informative, fascinating, enjoyable and excellent morning to celebrate my wife's birthday. Lee, the owner, is both inspired and inspiring. The tour was amazingly good value for money and including tasting five wines (generous tastes!) with nibbles included. However, access by taxi or having a driver willing to forego the tasting is essential if you wish to enjoy the wine to the full!

We visited during the local restrictions and made use of a voucher purchased as a Christmas gift. There was only one other couple on the tour however this was actually lovely and we were able to ask questions, adding to a very relaxed and informal experience. Our guide the vineyard manager was superb, so friendly and knowledgeable. We opted for the tour, wine tasting and cheese board which we thought were excellent value for money and left with a bottle of the Rondo and Pydew to enjoy at home! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and have already recommended the tour to our friends and family ????
