Cumbrian Heavy Horses

Reviewed By xljxx

Me and my partner both love horses and were staying in the area so decided to book a farm ride at Cumbrian heavy horses and was not disappointed! The booking was really straightforward and was told what to expect when we arrive etc. especially as we are not experienced riders. Kim took us out, she was so friendly and told us lots about the horses, it ended up just being us three during the farm ride so it was really relaxed and we got lots of photos with the beautiful surroundings. The horses are truly beautiful and clearly so cared for and loved. Thank you for a great day!

Ross Nye Stables

Established in 1965, Ross Nye Stables is the longest-established riding school to offer riding in Central London. Horses and riding have been synonymous with Hyde Park since the reign of Henry VIII, when it was used as a hunting ground for the Tudor Court! We offer both 'one off', memorable, bucket list hacks around the historic Hyde Park - including the famous Rotten Row! As well as, regular riding lessons for people of all experience levels and ages above 6 years.

My daughter and I both ride at home, and love to book horse experiences when traveling. I researched Ross Nye Stables here on TA before booking and my fellow reviewers did not steer me wrong. Dagmara and Louis were our guides on our private ride where we rode Clifton and Albus. They're located very close to Hyde Park, so it's only a short walk through the street before you reach the park. At home we would never ride in the streets, however, the drivers and people were so respectful of the horses and riders that I never felt unsafe. We got to see one of the queen's carriages in the park as well as the Royal guards with their horses in the park and another set heading to Buckingham palace. We had a great time and my daughter said her favorite part of our entire trip was cantering down Rotton row. No worries if you don't have boots, they can outfit you. We would book again!

My husband had given me a voucher for this beach ride for Christmas, and it was a wonderful present! I booked and went for the ride on Monday 3rd June. I am an experienced rider, a bit rusty and less fit than i should be, but having communicated with the very helpful Hazel and Lotti was excited whent he day came. The ride to the beach on the handsome and steady 'Blue' was great, with trotting and cantering to help get into the feel of the horse. Sarah who took the ride was attentive, professional and I felt fully confident with her, she was a lovely person too! We rode through countryside with some beautiful views and the ride on the beach was fantastic going into the waves and along the sands, i loved every minute and will definitely return! many thanks to all at Marros!

I booked a ‘picnic hack‘ for my horse-mad daughter for her birthday. We had a brilliant morning with Paul, our guide, who we followed horseback to a hillside cabin where we stopped off for our cup of tea! . The views were beautiful and the horses were fabulous. Donal, who dealt with the booking was responsive in emails and very welcoming on arrival, as were the rest of the Sheans team. We will certainly return and would love to do the beach ride next time. Overall - a great experience and a very happy teenager who can’t wait to go again!

My other half and I visited Cholwell stables in September 2020 as part of our trip down to Devon. It’s safe to say that our hour and a half ride on Dartmoor was the highlight of our whole trip! The staff at Cholwell Riding Stables are friendly and accommodating and the horses (Zippy and Oreo) were just fab. Upon booking you are asked for your height, weight and riding experience so that you are matched up with a suitable horse. It really seems as though all levels are catered for which is great. Thank you Cholwell, we will definitely be back! :)

The horses are looked after very well and they range in various sizes from small to very big ones, great for different abilities for people. they always have fresh hay and straw and water and you can see the staff all enjoy their work there, the best horse stable I have seen. My daughter and I spent 3 days riding here (I'm 58, she's 30) and would encourage anyone who likes horses to go for this experience. This team are so well organised and professional that whatever your level of ability and experience they'll have you enjoying yourself and building your confidence. (Group rides are split down to assist with this, and a myriad of support riders means you get lots of support if you need it, and great company if you don't (Ang, Lynn and Jess you were stars - thank you!).) The beach rides are truly fantastic - you won't be disappointed. We were really impressed and hope to return. Local accommodation in the lovely Glebe House - and cracking breakfasts - made it all very relaxing, and as an added bonus, every local eatery we tried for dinner was excellent (especially The Haven).
