We were staying at a resort nearby and drove to Gubbio for the day. A small town, but very upscale. Apparently, the wealth is held by a few families. One of them makes cement and has factories around the world. Don’t miss the caged ride to the top for a great view.

On a cruise trip with French speaking friends, we opted for this trip with Carole which lived up to the recommendation we were given. Mini bus from the ship direct into Rome at a very reasonable price. For a first visit to Rome it is ideal as you are dropped off at at least six or seven of the 'must see' sites and have a good 20 / 30 minutes at each. Of course if you have a decent knowledge of French it is better as Carole gives a good commentary as she expertly drives through the crowded back streets of Rome. Some of her other drivers don't speak French but still manage to communicate OK. Excellent recommendation for lunch (Ristorante Campo de Fiori) just off the actual market square. This trip was a great alternative to the expensive cruise ship excursions and a 'do it yourself ' excursion from Civitavecchia.
