Tumkur (officially renamed as Tumakuru) is the district headquarters of Tumkur district. It is one of the industrial cities located in the state of Karnataka. Since 28 August 2010, Tumkur has been accorded the status of a City Corporation. It is situated at a distance of 70 km (43 mi) northwest of Bangalore, along National Highway NH-4 and NH-206. It is the headquarters of the Tumkur district. Tumkur plays host for India's first mega food park which is a project of the ministry of food processing. The India Food Park was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2014.

Well its crowded people for many places visit the temple...they have 2 queues.
1.special darshan (100rs/2) .dharma darshan(free)....People who cant wait for long mainly oldies please choose Special Darshan...After having Mahalakshmi temple, next to it visit Ranganatha temple later ahead for lunch ...later if you time visit Dam....and your one trip day completes.But Temple authorities should some efforts to clean the temple suuroundings

Visited Mutt around 6.45p.m when prayers by students and preaching by swamiji was on.After the prayer lined up to see and have blessings of Dr.Sri Shivakumar Swamji all went very smooth.Later went towards dining hall for prasadam .
Nice to see so many kids getting Free education,shelter.Very good place to be here for few hours and have some peaceful mind.Visit once and experience yourself

Drive to this place will take about 3 Hours from Bangalore.Be well stocked with food and water while you are at this place.The way to come to this reserve is only in your mode of transport like Bikes/cars.
We went through Bangalore-Chickballapura-Gauribidanur-jayamangali route.After reaching Gauribidanur please ask for Kodiginahalli,Once you reach Kodiginahalli ask for Hosahalli Village or Mydanahalli.The drive of 3 Kms from Hosahalli to Jayamangali reserve is mud road.Have food either in Chikballapura or in Gauribidinur.
The black buck reserve is not properly organized for tourists.We reached there about 10:00 Am and the forest office was locked, we were there up-to 11 Am (In forest office)and none came.Entry is free to this reserve.We are free to drive our vehicle inside the reserve.We spotted a couple of black bucks.They run and hide hearing the sound of vehicles,so drive slowly without making much noise.
We are free even to walk in the reserves and there is no danger. This place is only for wildlife lovers and photography lovers.Nothing is organized here and we are on our own.I will recommend anyone to visit this place only if you are very much interested in Wildlife photography and a nature lover,else there is nothing much.Right from Gauribidanur to hosahalli the entire road seemed was inundated by butterflies,but sadly we did not find any butterfly inside reserve.We neither saw any birds,maybe because we reached the place after 10:00Am,but the was not sunny and it was pleasant with rain clouds(No rains though). So maybe as many reviewers are saying very early morning may be the right time to visit this reserve.
Overall an average place for visit(I am not a much nature lover or Photography enthusiast)

we went to the sidhalingeswara temple on the hill. We saw 106 years old Swamiji. There are 10000 students having free tuition, stay and food. is this not enough. The institutions include a deaf and dumb school. The Administrative Officer came there as a student in 1956.

Tumkur is a revenue district in Karnataka as well as an industrial city at 70km to Bengaluru on NH4 and NH206. The pride of hosting India's first mega food park goes to Tumkur, which has been declared Smart-city in August 2015. It is located at the foothills of famous Devarayadurga Hill, where River Shimsha originates and confluences with Cauvery River at Chamarajanagar after flowing 220km, and mingling with its own tributaries namely Chikkahole, Hebbahalla, Kanihalla, Kanva and Mullahalla. On her course she is captivated by Reservoir named ‘Markonahalli Dam’ in Kunigal Taluk built by Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadeyar IV, as suggested by Diwan, Sir M Visweswaraiah in 1939. It has resulted in creation of Agricultural colony in 1942. It provides water to irrigate more than 6000 hectares of land. Markonahalli is at 25km to Kunigal. From Devarayadurga, Simsha takes southward course to enter Mandya district, creating beautiful twin Waterfalls at Shivanasamudra.
Tumkur possesses many important religious and interesting tourist attractions like Siddaganga Mutt, an educational institution, which is an ancient kind of Gurukul, surrounded by beautiful natural and serene landscape. Famous temples of Lords Yoganarasimha and Bhoganarasimha are most visited by tourists and pilgrims every day at Devarayanadurga which is also a favourite dot for trekkers as it is rocky hill station in the midst of picturesque scenery at an altitude of 3940’. You can find natural spring considered sacred known as ‘Naamada Chilume’ the origin of ‘Jayamangali River’.
Yet another shrine at Goravanahalli , Koratagere taluk, well known as Goddess Mahalakshmi Temple, has been attracting thousands of devotees, especially women, every day, where heavy crowd are seen on Tuesday, Friday and festival days.
For Bangaloreans to enjoy weekend picnic Markonihalli Dam is the ideal spot near Kunigal, which is away from smoky, dusty and busy city life, particularly for those desiring to spend some moments of solitude. The natural, beautiful greenery around and reflection of blue sky in clean waters of the dam will leave us spell bound and memorable.
There are 27 species of fish out of them 13 kind of fishes are of commercial in this Reservoir. The special kind of fish called Puntius is the dominant class of fish. As I observed there is technical specialty adopted to this dam since it has siphon system to enables water to flow out automatically on reaching the maximum level, without requiring any manual operation to open or close the gates. However it is on record that in 2000, a portion of the dam was demolished to prevent floods to save 25 villages, since water started overflowing the dam and only one crest gate could be opened as such about 150’ of it was demolished to let out excess water.
I enjoyed spending some time in the park on other side of dam. It has beautiful greenery with provision for kids to play. I could see many beautiful flying birds with multi-colour wings and playfully moving rabbits.
I could take some interesting, curious and wonderful photographs of the sights. I saw large gathering of youths taking photos. It is a must visit destination to witness the gorgeous Mountains etc. At the same time enjoy calm, peaceful, cool breeze, fresh and non-polluted air, as no honking vehicles disturb us here. I can say that Markonahalli dam is one of the perfect picnic places for a family or youths.
Carry water, food and soft drinks. No accommodation. Enter water with experienced instructor. On NH4 on Bangalore-Pune highway Nelamangala is at 28Kms turn left on Bangalore-Mangalore highway (NH48) reach Kunigal at 44kms and go further on NH48 till you find signboard showing towards "Markonahalli Dam". Enjoy ur picnic.

We family of fourteen went to this temole on our way back from davarayana durga.We have taken tumkur-kunigal road.In this road we visited kaidala temple which is on the dame road.After this you have to travel about 20km and you ger hebbur.But chances are you may miss the deviation.Even though temple is good located in a small and narrow road.May find even mini buses difficult to go.Temple is good,calm besides also a mutt.kunigal is about 10km from here.Roads are good .

We visit this temple quite often and it is located on the highway near Sira, Tumkur district.
The temple and surroundings are remodelled lately and it is very nice. There is a choultry attached to the temple and many smal functions and weddings take place here.
The temple deity is Narasimha Swamy. There is not much crowd on ordinary days. The temple is over crowded and during the car festival the temple is in its full decoration.

If you have the time and an adventurous spirit, take a detour on route between Bangalore and Hyderbabad to the busy town of Pavgada and its imposing fort, keeping sentinel on a rocky outcrop above the town. It’s a solid 45-60 minute climb up the old stone stairway. The views from the 500 year-old ramparts are stunning and well worth the effort, and you’ll be rewarded with the knowledge that you’re one of only a handful of travellers who’ve ever scaled this medieval site. There’s not much remaining of the fort itself, but it’s an evocative place where you can have a picnic breakfast or spend an hour exploring the hilltop. It’s also a great place to watch the sunrise, however don't attempt the climb in summer when temperatures can sore to over 45 degrees. You won’t need a guide, however ask directions to the entrance gate from vendors or townsfolk near the temple in the centre of Pavagada.

This temple is very good, the Ganesha idol is huge. The idol is being prepared from mud. The process starts from the Ganesha festival day. It takes about a month to start the pooja. The jasmine garland, mouse, snake around the stomach, the eaties and other things in his hands are so nicely sculpted, one has to see and enjoy. Ganesha idol is immersed in the river during December after a night long fun filled procession.
It is very near Tumkur on the Kunigal Road. Don't miss an opportunity to see this temple.
