This castle has been recently renovated and restored to the condition worthy of its history. It is a very large structure and presents a great photo from the nearby bridge over the Elbe River. In front of and below the entry gate is a large pit where two bears now roam. Well worth a visit to Torgau just to see the castle, but there are other sights as well to see in the town.

The market square is a very nice place to sit at one of the outside benches or restaurant tables, have a snack, a meal and/or a drink and enjoy the pleasant surroundings. On the opposite side of the square sits the Rothaus and in another corner an attractive Fountain. The square also serves for a variety of local events.

This is the spot where the forces of the first Ukrainian front met up with the American forces in April 1945. This is a spot most likely not mentioned in the history books. I certainly was not aware of this but it is important nonetheless. When one looks at history, it is always imperative to remember that these were real people, not just names in a book. Their sacrifices should never be forgotten.

Interesting exhibition inside the local castle, it is easy to reach from the train station. Inside the castle there are various Exhibitions and also a mini zoo with bears

You enter from an unassuming passage up a wooden stair to find yourself back in the 17th century. This was the house of a wealthy middle-class family who demonstrated their status with painted ceilings. A kitchen has been reconstructed.

Unlike the typical English church with a tall nave and lower aisles this is typical of later gothic German churches with aisles as tall as the nave. In this case the aisles are also wide and the lack of capital contributes to a floating feel.
