Lake Linau

This pretty lake located in Tomohon, North Sulawesi, about 45 minutes to 1 hour from Manado depend to the traffic.
The place is quite cool due to it's location in Tomohon Highland.
When I went there, it was not too crowded, because it was weekday.
I was amazed that the toilet was so clean.
I ordered some snacks and had it with a cup of coffee which is free from our entrance ticket, while looking at the beautiful scenery.

Lake Tondano

We were quite hesitant to visit this large lake and expected to see a large body of water.
It turned out to be quite interesting and photogenic place, as there are many fishermen’s houses and fisheries on the shore of the lake with many green water plants.
Probably the best view over the lake is from the newly erected bamboo view platforms above the lake- tree houses. Here are at least 6 platforms so one can choose the best one, and the fee is voluntary. From the tree houses the view overlooks not only the lake, but also the Mountains on the far side of the lake.

Kasih Hill, Tolerance Monument

This place is a monument of tolerance in North Sulawesi. When you reach it, you will see a monument with five religion symbol carved on it. There's stairways to the upper hill (not so well taken care off) and on the top, you can see a very large cross (as a symbol of Christians, since majority of the North Sulawesi are Christians).
The atmosphere are cold since it is on the top of a hill and when you return from the top of the hill to the other exit way, there are a lot of traditional foot massage service that you can enjoy for a small price.

Lokon Volcano

After randomly being offered an organized tour through several sights in Tomohon, we quickly declined in a friendly manner. We were not looking for a fully organized tour. But this encounter did sparc our imagination towards our desire to visit several sights by motorbike, and to climb a local vulcano named Lokon. Following a day of motorbiking and sightseeing we used our evening to relax and organize our ascend of Lokon. By this time we found out most guides would take us to its crater, but not the summit! This is when we found our guide Jotje. He told us he would guide us al the way to the summit for a very reasonable price of Rp. 300,000 pp.
Jotje was very communicative through WhatsApp and suggested to be picked up by car next morning before sunrise from our resort. Just before dawn we were dropped off by his driver at the base of the vulcano. From there Jotje guided us up the lava path and past the crater all the way to the top of Lokon, while pointing out every not to be missed photo opportunity. Bunaken often painted a beautiful backdrop to our selfies along the way up. After resting halfway and at the summit he guided us down and explained into some detail the ins and outs of Lokon. When we arrived at the bottom again we were awaited by his drive and his car. We were dropped of at our resort satisfied and with an album inspiring amount of graphic material.
Dankjewel Jotje, we vonden het geweldig mooi!

Manado is not small but not too big either. Everytime you drive around, especially to visit or leave the center of the city, you are bound to pass this bridge. And it looks very cool. Definitely could use the picture as instagram.

Just off the main street from town, nestled between lush green farmland and the surrounding hills, lies this buddhist temple. The pretty pagoda tower can be seen from the town, poking up through the trees. It is a pleasant place to walk around and observe locals worshipping, or just looking around and taking photos. Of course as a foreigner, many locals were more interested in taking photos of me than anything else! There is an interesting turtle pond with a giant turtle statue and many other statues and temple buildings. A pleasant diversion on a walk around the nearby plant nurseries and rice fields.

Mount Mahawu

to get there you probably will want to get private transportation as the road to the entrance means some 6 km uphill.
the check point is next to the parking lot and a few meters from the stairs that lead to the viewpoint of the crater.
After walking up for less than ten minutes on the steep stairs you will get to rim where you can climb a rusty metal ladder to have a better view of the crater.
It´s posible to walk around the rim on a nice path, nevertheless, long grasses and plants are a problem in the way.
