What to do and see in Sunshine Coast, Sunshine Coast: The Best Museums

September 2, 2021 Franklyn Hardiman

British Columbia's Sunshine Coast does seem to get more than its fair share of great weather, plus breathtaking scenery and friendly coastal villages to discover. The beaches are best in summer, but the natural beauty is year-round. Travelers rave about swimming while gazing up at the mountains, or just relaxing in a romantic B&B while the setting sun paints a canvas of color over the water.

For a small town museum, it is simply outstanding. I'm happy to take visitors there to show off the history of P.R. Great exhibits, and by donation. Worth a couple of hours to take it in. (Pop next door to Putter's for Ice Cream after!)

Egmont Heritage Centre

An amazing museum in the tiny town of Egmont. It's by donation and has many interesting artifacts. It is located right across from the trail head to go to Skookumchuck Narrows and has washrooms and drinks for sale. Also check out the second hand store at the bottom of the municipal hall while in Egmont - it's also by donation.

When we drove into the heritage townsite, all we see are vacant lots and a huge industrial complex. By the end of our walk we were so engrossed in the history on display that we could barley notice the mill. Fantastic job by the society, grab the tour map and check out every well marked plaque. Visit the next generation of markets and business, just awesome. All of Powell River was a real surprise of little spots to explore. Loved it, best part of our sunshine coast trip.
