Kolbeinstveit, Ryfylkemuseet

The museum farm Kolbeinstveit comes alive in summer with in-house host, farm anmials, events, concerts and exhibitions. The farmhouse and the barn, date to about 1850. The Guggedal storehouse from 1281, Rogaland County's oldest wooden buiding, also stands here. Hosts serve traditional local food like butter porridge and Suldal "wraps". The farmyard is a fine playground where children can play.

The Ryfylke Museum

Nesasjøhuset houses the headquarter of Ryfylkemuseet. The old seawarf is located directly near the fjord at Nordenden, in the autenthic and idyllic town of Sand. Sand is located along the National Tourist road Ryfylke (no.13). Our exhibition 'Kvitebjørnen' (The Polarbear) is an interactive exhibition for kids which encourages them to play and use their imagination. The exhibition is based on a story by a local writer, Rasmus Løland (1861-1907). Løland is one of the most important authors within the nynorsk children's literature tradition. In both the story and the exhibition the kids meet a fairytale world where they can dress up and become a king, a princess or a police, fight the trolls and climb into the castles. The book is also available for reading. Ryfylkemuseet is a decentralised regional museum with branches in Forsand, Strand, Hjelmeland, Suldal, Sauda, Finnøy, Rennesøy and Kvitsøy. A lot of these sites are located along the National Tourist Road Ryfylke (Rv 13).

Flesana Waterfall

On its way through the valley of Brattlandsdalen, the Ryfylke Road, Rv 13, passes the scenic area known as Flesana. The waterfall here is particularly striking. It is best viewed from the rest area in the valley. The volume of the waterfall varies with the rainfall.

8. Roeynevarden, Ryfylkemuseet

Situated just above Lake Suldal is the cottar's farm Røynevarden. It may seem marginal today but it was one of the best cottar's farms in Suldal. The farm has six buildings and people were living here until 1946. A small exhibition in the barn sheds light on life on the farm. Røynevarden can be reached from the high-way (no.13), hike 500 m in the terrain and be rewarded with a beautful view.
