McQueen Gin

Trossachs Distillery in Callander, Scotland, is the home of multi award winning McQueen Gin – the brainchild of Dale & Vicky McQueen. Established July 2015, McQueen Gin launched in June 2016, with 4 world first botanical gins – Sweet Citrus, Smokey Chilli, Mocha and Chocolate Mint. In November 2016 we launched our flagship gin – Super Premium Dry, which then went on to win Double Gold in San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2017. March 2017 we launched Spiced Chocolate Orange, the 6th gin in our core collection. Since then we have created many more gins, available in various supermarkets and our Distillery shop. Every batch created, is made with the same passion and commitment to excellence as the very first one. Please come and visit us https://mcqueengin.co.uk/distillery-and-tours/

Our family (5 adults) visited the distillery on Friday. The staff were great and even offered to come and collect us due to bad weather. Stuart gave us a tour of the distillery, followed by a tasting of various different gins with Vicki, one of the founders of the business. The distillery is the perfect size to get up close and see everything in action and it was fascinating to hear all about how Vicki & Dale have created the business in only 4 years. Would definitely recommend a visit. And the chilli gin with ginger beer!

Travelling north and called into Doune for a coffee and a look around. Nice enough place, but pity that the current pandemic has closed the castle: would have liked to look around it. Strolled back into town and then found the wonderful shop 'The Desirable Curio'. What a lucky find. Full of interesting, collectable and good value items. Very well displayed. Tempted to buy a couple of items. Just couldn't resist, there is lots of choice and a good range of prices. Nothing is over-priced and there is no fussiness. Just lovely things to choose from. Proprietor friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend to anyone who likes Vintage items and interesting curios. Wishing the shop every success when the Covid crisis is over.

The Grail Doune

The Grail was founded in 2018 by 2 chums working in the whisky industry for a number of years with a passion for Scotland's national drink. We specialise in all things Scottish, craft and alcoholic! Pop in to find the perfect bottle, whether it be gin, rum, whisky wine, beer (the list goes on) We also offer bespoke tasting experiences that are informative and eye-opening but mostly lots of fun!

A superb ‘craft whisky’ (though also has gins / wines etc), shop managed by two extremely knowledgeable young ladies. Lately they’ve adapted to online tastings - Whisky / Rum / Gin which are also themed. An enjoyable experience well organised and fun, which is important at this difficult time. If you are thinking of getting onto a tasting - do it ! !

Stirling Castle

Dominating the skyline for miles around, Stirling Castle is a shining example of Renaissance architecture. Visitors can look out from its high stone walls to the battlefields of Stirling Bridge where great medieval armies clashed to decide the fate of nations. Home to generations of Scottish monarchs including, Mary Queen of Scots, the Castle is an enduring and powerful reminder of our fascinating history.

Doune Castle

Doune Castle is now open and we are delighted to welcome you back. Booking in advance is essential. Find out more and book at restarthistory.scot. Explore this 14th century courtyard castle in Doune, with a striking 100 ft high gatehouse and one of the best preserved great halls in Scotland. The formidable Doune Castle was built for the Regent Albany. The striking keep-gatehouse combines domestic quarters including the splendid Lord's Hall with its carved oak screen, musicians' gallery and double fireplace. This was used as a film location for the BBC production of Ivanhoe and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. As well as being heavily featured in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Doune Castle was also used for the castle known as Winterfell in the pilot of the award winning TV series Game of Thrones as well as Castle Leoch in Outlander.

Church of the Holy Rude

Reviewed By 9alba

I went on a church walk as part of the Stirling Photography Festival in August 2019. There is plenty to see in and around the church which is at the top of the town near the castle. The graveyard has a number of important grave sites and the church itself has a fascinating history.
