I had a great experience today renting a KTM Super Duke 1290 GT from Spyder Motorcycles. In the days before I arrived Lynn covered all paperwork and everything was ready to go when I arrived. The KTM is a current model in meticulous, as-new condition. Liz talked me off my jitters and Mark spent time patiently discussing my riding experience, the key features of the SDGT, and recommending a route with a mix of riding conditions between Silverstone and the Cotswolds. When I returned he debriefed me on the pros and cons of the bike. KTM - take note. I have been thinking about this bike but could not find one to demo in my home market of New York City. I visit England frequently for work and came to Silverstone as this is one of approximately two places on earth that rent the Super Duke GT. As a result of the experience at Spyder I'll be ordering and SDGT when I get back to the States next week.

Silverstone Autosport & Rally School

A great activity in Silverstone rally driving experiences and training for adults and children as individuals.

After watching Ken Block and other quality rally drivers on TV I had wondered for a while about how/where do you get a rally licence and some vital practice at how to drive a rally stage. The 2-day intensive package and BARS test with Silverstone Rally School did exactly what I wanted. Dorne was more than helpful and answered any questions that I had as well as booking accommodation for me at the Homeside B&B (literally a 2 min drive away) which was also fantastic. Andy's knowledge and tuition is top-notch and I found it it is really helpful to watch him do the laps first before you then take over. He makes it look ridiculously easy (it's not) and he is very clear that practice makes perfect so you spend virtually the entire day in the cars. The clubhouse and circuit has been set up as covid secure so risks have been assessed and minimised. The majority of my 2 days was spent driving FWD, RWD and AWD cars and working out how they handle differently at speed around the circuit. Lots of time spent handbrake turning, left foot braking, more throttle, donuts, less steering wheel turning etc. Great fun for anyone, really informative and safety is paramount at all times. Andy tempers the course to what you are after so I asked to learn as much as I could within the 2 days and tried to push as best as I could regarding my ability. I came away a far better driver than when I arrived and now with a rally licence I am looking forward to booking in for my first official rally. I've had a race licence (ARDS) for a few years now and it's obviously very different but I do think this course also gives lots of good tips and techniques which will also help improve track driving. I will definitely be back to Silverstone in the meantime to keep improving my skill set- many thanks to Andy and Dorne

Silverstone Circuit

Silverstone Circuit is the Home of British Motorsport, based in Northamptonshire, hosting races such as the Formula 1 and MotoGP. The first race was hosted here in 1948 making our circuit 70 years old. The 1950 British Grand Prix of Silverstone was the first race in the Formula One World Championship making our circuit one of the eldest on the Formula One calendar. We are also home to exhilarating driving experiences, where you can go for a whizz around our circuit in one of the world's most exciting supercars. As well as being home to The Silverstone Wing, the largest conference and exhibition space between London and Birmingham.

I love reading and giving reviews. It is the difference between either visiting an event or staying well clear. Some businesses do not get feed back directly which means they do not get the opportunities or chance to change things for future events. Website feedback is an amazing tool to get your message across to Silverstone, they will listen to your suggestions and comments. This summer has so far been extremely diverse with the weather conditions and water supplies have been in great demand. My advice for those coming to future events is not to run your bottles down to empty and fill them during racing as the queues are smaller. When you leave home have a couple of frozen bottles of water, they last for a few hours when wrapped in a tea towel, lovely and cool! Car entry and exits - 140,000 people logistic nightmare but thinking about how many cars depositing and removing them 1.5 hours is not really that long and they have really improved the roads over the last few years! Food vendors - unless you give feedback through their website, your voice may not be heard and not everyone wants burgers but only you can make a difference and maybe have a sandwich/salad bar (s) if you ask for them. Motor Racing is for all ages, whatever your preference this circuit has some amazing racing on their calendar with plenty of other entertainment, family friendly, campsites, amazing petrol heads, support staff. As a volunteer Racemaker I welcome you to this iconic venue I am proud to support and give my unpaid time to, just come along and kids - “Think Pink” If you would like to become a volunteer at Silverstone then take a look at the website in January 2019 when applications open and you could join us happy band of Pink and Blue’s who look after you!

F1 - British Grand Prix

As close as we'll ever get to a real-life Fast and Furious scene, the Formula One British Grand Prix racing car event takes place in the legendary Silverstone stadium. Since 1950 the former aerodrome has served as the leading racing car track holding host to legendary drivers such as Guiseppe Farina and Lewis Hamilton. While the event is always televised, nothing beats the live engine roars and contagious adrenaline. It’s all extreme nail biting and constant screeching as the world’s fastest cars leave you in a state of anxiety as they compete for the title of ‘Formula One World Champion’.

We went to the British GP this year in a group of 7 but met some more people there that we knew and had a great time. We stayed at the Woodlands campsite which has fantastic facilities and is like it's own separate festival with loads of entertainment on throughout the weekend. The shower and toilet facilities are kept clean by a group of hard working youngsters and the campsite itself is generally very clean. There is a buzz around the site from day 1. As for the racing we could sit anywhere on the Friday and Saturday as we had a grandstand ticket for the Sunday, we sat in Club and Abbey for practice and qualifying and I can recommend either of these for seeing the cars at their best. For the raceday we sat in the uncovered grandstand at Vale (our 3rd time doing this) and the action you see from there is fantastic! Lots of food outlets, bars and merchandise stalls along wth activities all around the track makes for a great weekend. See you in 2020!!

Right from what was RAF Silverstone the the very modern circuit it is today. Great exhibition with many interactive items and some great cars on show and some very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Also great coffee with with snacks.
