What to do and see in Sardinia, Italy: The Best Multi-day Tours

July 14, 2021 Jana Sager

The second-largest island in Mediterranean after Sicily, Sardinia serves up a lovely blend of sea, sand and history. Thousands of nuraghe (stone buildings) dot the landscape, proof that people have been enjoying the lovely climate here for millennia. From posh Costa Smerelda in the north to medieval Alghero in the northwest to the lively capital of Cagliari in the south, and with many picturesque towns and unspoiled sandy beaches in between, Sardinia’s got a little something for everyone.

We did the 3 day 4 night SW Sardinia cycling trip. It was perfectly organised from start to finish - great pre arrival info, lovely touches like map and water bottle, very informative cycling notes. Good change of views and terrain. We are 4 non cyclists- but active in other sports and 1 cyclist and we found it not necessarily easy but not difficult- just right. The teens were happy with 3 days of cycling and were glad to have a rest. We adults could have cycled more! Would highly recommend and if we get the chance, will do another tour.

This trekking on foot, with donkeys carrying your stuff, offers you in the middle of unspoiled nature, the most authentic Sardinia: forests of green oaks, thick Mediterranean vegetation, rivers and sources of pure water among the highest mountains from Sardinia. We meet wild boars, deer and the typical Sardinian fauna. With a little luck, we will see in the distance mouflons, horses and birds of prey. It will also be an opportunity to get in touch with shepherds and the inhabitants of these small villages. The Sardinian donkey is patient, indefatigable, it is the animal of the shepherds par excellence and perfectly adapted to our trekking for the transport of luggage. In general, we will have a donkey for two.

Fantastic day! We immediately felt very welcome by the hosts (and Dana the dog) and the donkeys are obviously well loved and looked after ???? The scenery was stunning and the vineyard is beautiful. The wine was absolutely delicious and we tasted some of the produce from the vineyard on the trek. Lovely day and highly recommended ????

First, the boat (the Blue Magic) is very comfortable. You can find on this boat of 49 feet everything you need. We had the biggest room with my wife, my sons (9 et 5 years old) were in a smallest one together but sufficient. Then Bobo, the skipper : very nice with all of us, very funny too. He's a very good skipper, very safe. No one had seasickness on board and i'm sure Bobo was the key with very sweet navigations every day. Giusy, Bobo's wife, took care of us every single minute of the cruise with so much kindness and sweet attentions. She's a very good diver and if something has to be observed under the see, she sees it at each time ! So impressive. She's a very good cooker, her coffee Moka is delicious obviously with a dozen of Molinetti cookies ;-) The cruise took us from Santa Maria Navarrese and Ogliastra to the North of Magdalena archipel and then we came back to Olbia. Very nice trip, just one day off nav because ok thunderstorms. So much marvelous sites, calas, snorkel spots, and fun. We've lived with them so easily ! To conclude, it was like paradise during a week. Bobo and Giusy are the perfect hosts. I can assure you we'll be back on board soon for Sardinia west coast cruise on the Blue Magic with both of them. Further more, 2 painful moments during the cruise : the minute you get back in your pants after a week on board living in a swimsuit (like to be in jail), and the time to say goodbye to Bobo an Giusy because they became a part of our family :-(( Last advice : 2 swimsuits, 2 T-shirts, 2 shorts for each person on board is enough for the entire week, so forget trolley and all the unuseful stuff you usually take on vacation

As a family of three, we were excited to go on the 7 day northern lakes and Dolomites tour - especially as it would be very difficult to visit these areas by ourselves (visiting from Australia and not confident driving/getting around to these areas). The tour started well, we were the only English speakers but we had been assured our guide would provide fluent English commentary. Perhaps we expected too much but there was very little information provided about where we were or where we were travelling through. In fact, the first three days we received very limited information in total while the Spanish speakers were provided with much more. We visited some stunning places but too much of the tour focused on lunch breaks and eating rather than seeing the sights. Halfway through the tour more English speakers joined the group bit we still had to seek information rather than being provided with it on some occasions. The bus was too big for navigating city streets and mountain switchbacks - the driver often had to reverse and try multiple times to get around corners and switchbacks. I felt very sorry for him - he did a marvelous job but it would have been so much easier for him and much more enjoyable for us if we weren't concerned about falling off the side of a mountain. The company can't seem to decide whether they are catering to small groups or large and this has a huge impact on the enjoyment of the tour. In Trento we were advised that we would have several hours and could visit the castle. After paying for admission and entering we were then advised that because it was raining some people didn't want to stay so we were cutting the visit short - this should never happen! We then had to get back on the bus only to stop at a truck stop for lunch (instead of staying in lovely Trento). There wasn't really any point to having the guide as he did not provide much "guiding" only very limited information and directions to places he thought we should go and eat. We would have done as well with just the driver. If you can navigate your way around the northern lakes and Dolomites by yourself then I recommend you do that. Otherwise, perhaps a different company would provide a better tour.

We made several stops during our July trip to Italy, including famous places like Venice and Rome, but Sardinia was certainly its highlight! Natalia asked a lot of questions during the planning phase and found the ideal location for us! Everything about it was perfect! Boutique hotel La Coluccia with its beautiful grounds, breathtaking views, super friendly staff and a great sandy beach. Ancient megalithic nuraghe sites, excellent wineries and fantastic "farm-to-fork" restaurants all in a short driving distance. Coming from California we couldn't help but notice a lot of similarities in the scenery and vegetation of Sardinia and with that the differences were even more striking. No crowds. Warm sea. Medieval towns. Super fresh minimally processed food. And did i mention no crowds? :). We can't wait to come back! Thank you Natalia and Roberto for our great time in Sardinia!
