Visited this place and we were just about the only visitors at the time we went and the colours of the leaves were beautiful. We understand that this is a historical place, but we were delighted by the colours and the tranquility. Nice place to spend some quiet time to appreciate its beauty during autumn.

Very nice observatory to appreciate the vast cityscape of Sapporo. Highly recommended to check the weather forecast to find out the sunset times during your trip, and go up around 20 to 30 minutes before sunset, so you can enjoy both the day view and night view on the same trip.

Free to enter. We rented bikes at very reasonable rate (200 yen for 2 hours) at the entrance and helped to move around, which saved our energy for walking up to various higher grounds for most charming views around. We enjoyed the 15 minutes fountain show. Check the schedule at the bike store.

This is a simple on the hill observation square to the south-west of Sapporo station on the outskirts of Sapporo. We came here after dinner. It was a bit chilly, but we braced the cold for a while to partake the night scenery, and the winds. It's a very romantic place, nice for a night out.

The view from Mt Okura Observatory is stunning, at night you can see the city lights spread out in front of you. The cable car was enjoyable. By the way, if you take the bus to the Observatory, make sure you know the time of the return bus, as taxis may be scarce.

We visited on Christmas Day,taking a taxi to Makamonai subway station as we were running late and wanted to catch the 10. 45am bus. At bus stop 2,do stand in line to wait for bus 106 as it only takes up to bus - allowed capacity. The ride to Takino SuZuran was pretty as it passed residential areas with houses all covered in snow. Upon arrival,within 50m, you will find lockers, which we used to put stuff we didn't need. There are more lockers inside the place. It was minus 9 degree celcius that day. Most activities are free and well organized with a queue system to ensure safety. You will need to walk some distance to the sledding and tubing area. Ski rental was a reasonable ¥2900. However, the most fun was just playing in the snow and taking in the experience. The place is huge so there is no problem with crowds. There is a cafe serving food and a drinks at reasonable prices. Also nice kids play area. We took the 3.30pm (i think it was the 2nd last bus of the day) bus back. Again, do remember to line up early to board. All in, a great day spent and also one which didn't cost a lot.

This year was the 71st Sapporo snow festival our team was representing Australia in the 47th snow sculpture competition this was the Fourth tme our Australian Team from Shoalhaven had competed. The Sapporo snow festival is one of the biggest and most popular festivals in Japan which covers 1.5 Km in Odori Park and is held over 10 days with some of the amazing snow sculpture created by the Japanese Army and the citizens of Sapporo and incorperates 12 International time including Australia competing and show casing the art of snow sculpturing. Our Australian sculpture this year was the NSW state emblem our Native Waratah, The snow festival with many pop up food stalls and laser light shows of a night has a visitation of over 1 million people. The Snow Festival is well with a visit as Sapporo is a modern vibrant city with much to offer any tourist.

From one end of the park with the Sapporo TV Tower to the other end with the beautiful Rose gardens, the park is full of activities and exhibits during the summer months. We were here in July. There were Beer gardens with food, tables and tents, set up. There was further down a huge plant sale set up. With various plants and flowers. It was a pitty we couldn’t take any of them home to Hawaii. The park has many areas for kids with play sets and swings to slides and even a water park. It’s drained and fresh water fills it hourly. Then finally we reached the beautiful rose garden and spent much time looking and taking many photos of all the various variety of roses. Go early so you can take photos without too many others people in them. It got busy there. All in all a nice walk and so much to see here at Odori Park. A must to include in your adventures of Sapporo!

Such a beautiful place!!! You can walk the inner trail or outer trail, or wonder as you please. The only thing not maintained is the rose garden. Everything else was great. They also have an assortment of green houses. We really enjoyed the 2 museums inside as well. It was only 420 yen to enter. If you have time, I’d highly advise taking a stroll here. Tip: they are closed on random days!! Check their website and switch to English. You can see their calendar online.

Went on a weekday, not crowded at all. Entrance fees 600yen for adults and children under 12 is free on charge. It was a snowing day and the zoo provide umbrella to all visitors. 15mins walk from the station. There r so much to see in the zoo. But due to cold weather, some animals might be keep indoor. So dont be surprise that some area/cage r empty. It will be a nice exercise for those who seldom walk.
