Because we sadly speak only a little Spanish we wanted a private transfer from GYE (Guayaquil airport) to our accommodation in Ayampe on a Friday afternoon late December. We contacted Montañisol via email to ask whether it was possible and what the cost would be. Arturo got back to me very quickly to offer collection at the arrivals hall at a price that was reasonable considering the situation and distance from Ayampe. Obviously it was not cheap but did save a great deal of waiting around and stress after a big day of travelling to Guayaquil. Arturo was always quick to respond to emails and as arranged, the very nice driver was waiting for us with our name on a sign when we exited the arrivals hall. It was all very well organised and straightforward and I have no hesitation in recommending Montañisol for a private transfer. It was a very hot afternoon, the car had seen some kilometres, there was no airconditioning but the driver was excellent and professional.

La Chocolatera

Reviewed By ruthandvern - Wilton, United States

We took a taxi from the Malecon to the vista point above La Choclatera and after getting some sweet pictures we had him drive us down and out to the point where this site is. We had to pass through the Military gate to get out there, no big deal there though. The land is flat and mostly barren being on the volcanic rock from who knows when. The name comes from the color of the volcanic rocks, has nothing to do with chocolate. This vistas from the point are awesome. There's a snack bar that serves food and beverages, and a bathroom building, which is great since there is nothing else out there. We took the hike of about 40 minutes to La Loberia, the first part is sand but about half way (there are covered areas with water fountains along the way) it turns to a brick path. This has only been available in the past 10 years.

Ben Haase has created a wonderful, interesting, educational and informative museum on his property. He is passionate and knowledgeable and it shows in his tour. This is a must see while in Salinas for the entire family. It's a very affordable $3.00 per person and you can help the museum by giving a bit more as a donation. Highly recommended. We were not able to try his wife's seafood restaurant as it was not open this particular weekend, but it came highly recommended by our hotel.

This beach is cleaner than most I've been to. The cabanitas, and there are many, offer great breakfasts and fresh seafood. Plenty of sun umbrellas and chair to rent at a decent price. There are vendors that walk the beach selling jewellry, food, hats, sand toys, etc...but they are polite. Great place to watch the sunsets.

Beautiful view of the complete beach of Olón. It is also a place of worship. The breeze from the ocean is also agreeable. An easy taxi ride of $1.50 will take you there.
