What to do and see in Salamanca, Castile and Leon: The Best Food & Drink

September 29, 2021 Renato Branum

Known as Spain’s "golden city," Salamanca is rich in architectural, religious and gastronomic culture. Marvel at the La Casa de las Conchas (house of shells) and the 18th century Plaza Mayor, then pore over the fresh produce of the Central Market. Both the Old and New Cathedrals of Salamanca are celebrations of Renaissance and Gothic styles.

ran across this just after getting to town. DH and I enjoy visiting local markets ... we picked up some fruit, salami, nuts and a few spices (got some saffron to give our friends) quite reasonably. The bathrooms here are locked to prevent problems with "riff-raff" ... one of the vendors was kind enough to let me in. Colorful windows.
