This temple was founded in the 9th Century A.D. It has a very quiet atmosphere and some great carvings and buildings. Highly recommended. Before trekking on the Yamanobe no Michi, pick up a copy of "The Poet's Realm; Japan's Oldest Road." Well illustrated and informative. Available on Amazon.

It is very interesting, rather small temple. When we visited it in late October we were there alone. Fantastic place to meditate, get away from outside world. Something different than overcrowded temples of Kyoto.
