What to do and see in Saba, Saba: The Best Things to do Good for Couples

December 12, 2021 Margarita Chappel

Those looking for the typical Caribbean tourist experience - drinking, gambling, beaches - will want to stick to next-door neighbor St. Maarten. But for a remote escape known for ecotourism, including hikes, climbs and spectacular dives, Saba delivers. The smallest island (five square miles) in the Netherlands Antilles, Saba is primarily a dormant volcano covered in rain forest. A single road (aptly named "The Road") takes visitors to quaint villages, where you can purchase the traditional Saba lace.

Saba National Marine Park

The official location on the island where visitors can anchor their yachts and snorkel for a small fee.

Had a wonderful week of scuba diving in the Saba marine park. We were able to experience the various dive sites from the live aboard Caribbean Explorer II. We were fortunate to have calm seas and currents and experienced the pinnacle dives, diamond rock, tent reef and many more sites. We saw several sea turtles on all dives, numerous jumbo lobster, plentiful fish, rays and reef sharks. Visibility was outstanding, reefs we're beautiful, couldn't ask for a better dive vacation! The crew members made the trip even better. Diving with Kirsten, Tino and Sarah was a great. Julian made delicious food all week and captain Bob was super friendly.

Jo Bean Glass

Where the magic happens .... Glass Art, Jewelry & Beads. Hot glass art, Saba made from Murano Glass. Demonstrations given. Schedule a class and bring home a memory.

What a terrific experience and well worth your time and money. Jo is a lovely woman, funny and patient. She showed us many ways to create our own unique glass gems. From beads to hearts and many other structures. This is an activity almost anyone can do. My son (20 yrs old) absolutely loved it!! He made some personalized gifts for his girlfriend and Mom. Boy, is he gonna score! MUCH better than buying a "souvenir" made in China. We did the 3 hour class and would do it again. She is a true artist. Her workshop is safe and has many items on display to buy. I picked up a few items and made a few things myself that I will always cherish. Priceless moments and unique mementos my son and I will never forget. This is a must do in Saba. Thank you Jo.

Mount Scenery

At 3,000 feet, Mount Scenery is the highest point on the mountainous island of Saba and can be reached via a difficult hike through the rainforest.

Reviewed By Manatee4Me - Charlotte, United States

The trail up Mount Scenery consists of packed dirt and carved stone steps. No two steps are the same height or width. If it has been rainy at all, chances are the steps are slick. A walking stick or pole is helpful (walking sticks are usually available at the little trailhead building). Once close to the top, I felt like I was in a scene from Jurassic Park: huge tree ferns, dense green foliage, rugged rock outcroppings, all partially obscured by swirling mist. And if you are fortunate to be there when the mist lifts, fabulous views of the island.

Windwardside is a beautiful town. Over looking the ocean with an amazing view of Mount Scenery, good accommodation options and many great restaurants. We loved our stay there. For divers, Sea Saba is a great shop, helped us set everything up from tours to diving and dinner reservations. One of the friendliest places we have ever been. 100% recommend visiting Saba.
