Promenade Le Corbusier

We got the train from Cannes to Menton which takes just over an hour. Menton is a lovely place and we had coffee in the old town before setting off to Monte Carlo. The first part takes you along the Promenade and eventually on to good footpath around the headland.
As you come round the headland you get great views of Monte Carlo. The path is very good just a few ups and downs with steps. One section has been re routed at the moment due to damage to a walkway.
It's great views al the way and takes just over 2 hours a must for walkers.

Old Chateau Cemetery

Cemeteries are not normally places we would visit but this one has the grave of William Webb Ellis - the inventor of Rugby Football. We never did find his grave so if you are interest make sure that you take a GPS grid reference!. What is really interesting about this cemetery is the wide variety of nationalities of people buried here and the relatively young ages at which they died. They are a monument to the benefit of good public relations. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries people with health problems flocked here for the benefits of the clear air advertised in travel books. The graves are a testament to the triumph of hope over experience. But they are certainly worth seeing.

Have been looking at cars for years with my husband. He loves them. I don’t this museum was a great compromise. The cars exhibited were so cool and unique even I was impressed. Many were gifts from famous people. One of my favorites was the same model Grace Kelly rode driven by Cary Grant in To Catch a Thief. Very well laid out. No backtracking. Definitely worth a couple of hours.

Basilica St. Michel

The Basilica of Saint Michael is located right in the middle of the old part of Menton.
It's a short climb from the main shopping area, but worth every step.
The church dates back from the early 17th century and was designed as a a typical example of Baroque style. Also the wonderful interior is worth a visit and, if necessary. offers a nice place to sit down and rest a little while.

Monaco Grand Prix

Formula 1 in Monaco is a unique event. People from all over the world come here for 4 days of fun food and sport. Thursday is Practice , Friday is Entertainment , Saturday is Qualifying and Sunday is the race through the narrow streets of a small city with cars driving 330 km/h. You need to reserve everything way ahead, your tickets €1200.00 up to €12.000 your Hotel 5 days €10.000 up to €50.000 Your Dinner 5 times € 1.000 up to € 80.000 (for two) .So if you dont want to be mistreated because you lack this type of cash watch the race on TV. I live here, i know it all , it's just a little exaggerated but that's why a lot of the locals stay away and rent their balcony for up to € 500.000 for 3 days. If you come with your own 60 meter Yacht it is even more expensive. But it's fun and you can have a beer Thursday or Friday night on the race track.

Saint-Martin Gardens

We had a bad experience on our Monaco Tours, but we have to thank them for leaving us right beside these beautiful Gardens, as I am not sure we would have seen them otherwise. Truly amazing views over the harbour, and as it is also on the older side of the Ville, they added to the aura of the whole place.
A MUST see!

The medieval castle of Roquebrune and the surrounding old village is as beautiful as the nearby, very touristy, Eze village! Native Roquebrunois are thus happy that their village was not discovered so soon, as it is more authentic and not overrun with tourist buses!!!

Jardin Botanique et Exotique Val Rahmeh

Facing the sea, the exotic botanical garden has a subtropical microclimate unique in France. The temperature annual average 17°C. Experiment garden, greenhouse with rare plants, it houses beautiful collections of palm trees, bamboos, citrus-fruit, edible tropical plants, that is all together over 1400 species. Thanks to its path with hundred year old palm trees, its pond with lotuses, water hyacinths, giant water lilies from Amazonia and its atmosphere of dry forest and jungle, this garden evokes memories of trips to the tropics.

This enlarged villa garden is run by the French museum of natural history and is loaded with wonderful and interesting plants. The presentation is well made, the 21 stations take about one and a halv hour.
Not giving this full points is because 1)there is no proper café, how is that even possible given the premises?! and 2) there is not enough explained about the history of how the place came about and the people behind
This is the garden of Eden for your old teacher in biology and your own hidden interest in plants will come to life. Enjoy
