What to do and see in Province of Chubut, Patagonia: The Best Things to do for Honeymoon

July 4, 2021 Jeremy Dunfee

Chubut (Welsh: Talaith Chubut; Spanish: Provincia del Chubut IPA: [tʃuˈβut]) is a province in southern Argentina, situated between the 42nd parallel south (the border with Río Negro Province), the 46th parallel south (bordering Santa Cruz Province), the Andes range to the west, and the Atlantic ocean to the east. The province's name derives from the Tehuelche word chupat, meaning "transparent," their description of the Chubut River.

We decided last minute to make the trip from Buenos Aries when I saw images of these guys online. Although a bit of a hike to get down here, it was totally worth it! Spend a few hours just enjoying the beautiful weather and observing the penguins in their habitat. They aren’t afraid of people and will often walk right by you on the walking trails, so cute!

Puerto Madryn is a really special place for me. It is a beautiful city where you can go in summer or in winter and you’ll have interesting things to do. In summer you can enjoy the beach and go to see the penguins, the killer whales or the dolphins and in winter you can go to see the whales. My favourite season to go is in winter i love to go to “El Doradillo” beach and just sit there watching the sea and the whales. And also there is a coffee shop called "Quemehuencho" they do the best churros in the world, if anyone goes to Puerto Madryn they should try them, you won't regret!

We had a great tour guide with animal bones and other examples. We saw whales, sea lions, guanacos, sea elephants, mara, and sheep. We used Bottazzi tours. Since we were 5 people, we were given our own vehicle and guide. The boat ride was amazing. We saw many whales in groups since it is mating season. Unforgettable!

Southern Spirit Cruises (Whale watching)

Southern Spirit Cruises, an authorised boat operator for the watching service of southern right whales is pleased to offer you the following services:CONVENTIONAL WATCHING (Regular trip)The regular program consists of an excursion on the Golfo Nuevo waters on board of RIBs (rigid inflatable boats). The breathtaking show of watching closely a whale with her calf, observing a breach or listening to a whale’s spout is an experience you will hardly forget. As from spring, during the navigation you will be able to watch sea lions in their rookeries and typical species of sea birds, apart from enjoying beautiful seaside landscapes. SUNSET WATCHINGAs from September, we will be offering a special longer trip in RIBs with only a few passengers on board. This excursion is the last trip of the day, and is usually chosen by lovers of photography due to the light and peculiar colours that the Patagonian sunset offers us. YELLOW SUBMARINE (Underwater whale watching)This trip is carried out on board of the semi-submersible Yellow Submarine which, unlike other vessels, allows us to watch whales submersed in their environment. Underwater, the perspective is totally different and the experience is similar to diving among them. By means of any of the 40 viewing windows located at the underwater level you will be able to watch the whales while they remain close to the vessel, or you may opt for watching them from the outdoor upper deck as a conventional watching tour.

Spent a pleasant Saturday travelling from Esquel on return journey. Although commentary was in Spanish the hostess provided us with an informative short audio guide in English and checked we were OK a number of times during the journey. Get to the station early and walk over to the engine shed and watch the engine being prepared -photos without the crowds too! No problem climbing into engine for photos either. Very helpful pleasant crew. At turnaround station we went into the dining car and shared an excellent toasted sandwich and homemade lemon pie served by a charming young lady. Delicious. A really good excursion.
