The Tre Cime di Lavaredo are among the most beatiful and known peaks in the Dolomites.
There's a hiking trail going all around them. It takes about 4 hours going up and down at an elevation around 2300-2400 mt.
Try to do it on a sunny day and try to arrive early as it might get quite crowded. The view of the Tre Cime but also the of the majestic landscapes and other peaks all around are breathtaking.
Wild nature at its best.

We loved every minute of our trip to Mount Marmolada. The cable car ride is in three stages. Amazing panoramic views from the second and third stops. There is a souvenir shop, restaurant and museum at the second stop.It cable car might be a little pricey, but it sure is worth it. I'd do it again tomorrow if I could! Great covering of snow, which just added to the beauty of The Dolomites. It was very cold at the top viewing platform, but if you wear appropriate clothing (long trousers, ski jacket) you'll be OK.

Civetta is a paradise for mountaineers, there are a number of high difficulty climbs in t outings, two important and long Ferries, and also the way via normal. Also the normal routes requires ferrata gear, excellent physical form, requires experience to exposure and control in moving on this type of terrain. There are some starting points for ascents in this area, but only from Alleghe you can also in the summer ride a cable car, which will take you up to almost 2,000 m. There are two exciting trekking excursions in the Civetty Gallery. A more familiar and more frequented path from A.Sonino al Coldi's cottage to Tissi cottage leads to the magnificent alpine valley beneath the Civetta northwest wall. This trek is part of the Alta Via 1 (one of the most popular long-distance routes of the Dolomites).
On the eastern side leads Sentiero Tivan, which is used mainly as a starting route for Ferries. Marked route with some cables and some easy scrambling, but definetely no hiking.
Both of these trips together are part of the so-called „The Civetta circuit trail“. Today you can download the free application of audio guide "Talking trails" for your IOS and antrooid.
From Alleghe you take the lift to Piani di Pezzè, then the new 8 seater cable car up to Còl dei Baldi, and you take the first path veering towards the East that leads to the Malga Pióda (altitude 1,816 m). From this closed Malga, according to the signpost of hiking trails, the Coldai Cottage (2,132 m) is 1 hour and the Tissi cottage is 2: 45 hours. From the chalet we climb to the Forcella Coldai (2,192 m) and then down to the Lake Coldai (2,143 m) .The whole area is quite devastated by numerous tourists and their abbreviations of path.We explore the downhill road down to Pián di Pezzé (no 570) via the famous Rue de Porta Pezzé (esperti !). Proceeding under the Torre Coldài there is a brief climb that leads to the Forcella di Còl Negro (2,203 m). On the saddle for the first time we see the chalet Tissi in the distance and the last guided group of tourists returns. Instead of looking at the scree travers, the path steep turns steeply down the steep slopes of Col Negro. We continue on an up and down path among rocky crags, then it is down until we cross the path 565 that comes up from Alleghe, where there are more fabulous views of the lake.
It's hard to describe the feeling of being alone in silence, in a marvelous, stony atmosphere under majestic fascinating peaks, towers and needles. We admire the wildlife here. In addition to the still flowering rhododendrons, I have to mention the beautiful flowers of Physopléxis comósa Schur, the tender white flowers of the subtle Saxifraqga squarrosa Sieber (a strictly protected endemist of the southeast Alps) and especially the wonderful scented yellow Papaver alpinum subsp. Rhaeticum - a plant of screes and morraine on the limestone in the Dolomites. In my life I have never seen so many of these flowers as in the moraines under the Torre Coldài.
We climb towards Forcella di Col Réan, where we turn right from our road no. 560 to the A.Tissi cottage at an altitude of 2,250 m. The steep descent for more than 1,300 meters did not attract us, so we preferred to return to the same way to the cable car.
The beautiful walk in the entire Civetta area for the majestic rock wall that dominates the trail and follows it along its entire course. A bit physically demanding.

We found the hike to be a little more challenging than reviews made it seem. Definitely not a killer, but still an average hike difficulty back home in Utah.
Anyway, the lake itself is breathtaking. We couldn’t get ourselves to leave. Just wanted to stare. We were lucky to go on a foggy day that semi-cleared as we hiked, so the lake was silent and virtually empty. But with the views this place/hike has, you’ll want to see it no matter the weather.
Don’t miss this.

The Giau Pass (Italian: Passo di Giau) (ladin lenguage: Jof de Giau) (el. 2236 m.) is a high mountain pass in the Dolomites in the province of Belluno in Italy. It connects Cortina d'Ampezzo and Colle Santa Lucia. It is located at the center of a vast mountain pasture at the foot of Nuvolau (2,574 m) and dell'Averau (2,647 m) from which you can easily reach the Monte Pore (2,405 m). We drove from Cortina having already visited Tres Cimes on the other side of the valley. The road here was a challenge for our 3 cylinder eco Polo, but it managed the hairpins and gradients - just! Watch out for the motorcyclists overtaking on blind bends and convoys, they don't give you much leeway! At the top there is a cafe and carpark, which can be busy. The walking options don't appear as vast as Tres Cimes, but the views are excellent.

This would be a fun cable car ride in all seasons.
The views are unbelievable as you scale the vertical rise.
I believe it was used in the Sylvester Stallone Cliff Hanger movie.
At the top when skiing you get lots of access to some lovely runs, for non skiers there is a great restaurant to hang out either inside or outside where there are lots of sun loungers to soak in the sun and the amazing views.

Summits available with chair lift so it is great trip for families. Round trip around all five summits takes around an hours with some exhibits of military presence from WWI. also trip can be continued to the neighboring summits with many opportunities. I believe you can get also by car next to the summits but I would recommend chair lift.

While there is nothing wrong with the museum, it has nothing that any other WWI museum shows (except the local stories/biographies obviously)
Worth a visit if you are going up the cable car anyway (the views are good BTW and the skiing is excellent) but would not bother to make the trip up to station 2 specially.
