La Fontaine de Vaucluse

Natural spring and waterfall.

We saw this on a day tour of Provence and our guide, who dropped us off in the town square, pointed it out and said "It's just a 5 minute walk up the hill". Well, it more like a 20 minute walk and we are fairly fit. We felt bad for elderly people trying to get there in a short time. The water was roaring and at flood stage when we were there, so it was magnificent to see - a beautiful green color and with the fall leaves all around it was just gorgeous. The castle on top of the hill that you could glimpse coming back was also great to view. It's not an easy walk for those who are expecting a short jaunt, but it is doable. Because of the time of year we were there, most of the stands and shops along the way were closed. No open restrooms nearby.

Worth the walk to see a beautiful spot and plenty of wildlife. Apparently the main Rocher in the village was a waterfall until the villagers diverted the waters for irrigation

The springs are accessible by a path that goes down into the forest. It will take you an hour to reach an amazing place.
