Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary

You'll never forget the day you helped give an elephant a bath (additional request with the help of a guide). Currently elephant riding has been temporary stopped until further notice. Get up close and personal with the amazing semi-wild elephants at Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary. Be sure to book in advance because the center has strict daily visitor quotas.

My boyfriend and I spent a day at the elephant sanctuary on our way from the Cameron Highlands to Taman Negara. We chose the educational guide (120RM for a private tour) which included feeding the baby elephants, watching them being given milk, an educational short film, the ‘elephant show’ (introduction to each of the big elephants) and feeding the big elephants. We paid 10RM each to bathe with the baby elephants in the river. The sanctuary itself is extremely peaceful, surrounded by the river and national park. Our guide Mira was lovely, extremely knowledgable about the sanctuary and the elephants themselves and made for a wonderful day. We stayed in Temerloh and paid 150RM for a taxi from our hotel, to wait for us all day and then take us back to the bus stop. This was a fantastic day, and good value for money (don’t bother with a prebooked tour unless you need the transport!). We highly recommend!

Cherating Turtle Sanctuary

A very simple excursion. Book up-front (we did earlier the same day), turn up at the allotted time (in early evening before it gets dark) and get a bucketful each of 16 or so one-week old baby turtles to release on the beach close to the water. A lovely experience, and a good cause, in them protecting and coaxing the eggs into healthy little creatures. Take time to visit the Sanctuary during the day too. They are doing some renovation/development work now (Aug 2019), but the small museum is very informative. And free of charge, but please do leave a donation ;-)

I had visited deerland 9 years ago. It is shame that i just foubd out this amazing since my family was living nearby which is 20 mins drive from Batu Tiga. As we used to surpass this mini zoo and went to KL zoo instead. I would had asked our father to bring us here is i ever knew it. Nevetheless this is an amazing zoo. Much intimidating personal touch with the wild compare with the zoo at Kl . They dont have big animals they do have many small type of cute animals like wild cats, wild fluffy roasters , gecko, rabbits and birds. I had visited this zoo before and took pic with a small python there. I visited it again last week and took pic with a much bigger python. Not sure whether it is the same python but it should be the same as python life span is up to 20 years.????
