Van Stapele Koekmakerij

Just phenomenal...... The canals of Amsterdam are just divine and SO are their cookies!!! Forget stroopwafels, if that’s what you think you must indulge in when in Holland.... these cookies from Van Stapele are the winners! We queued for around 20 mins - possibly the most rewarding queuing experience ever!! And the best value €2 ever spent. Yes, somehow we resisted and stuck to a single cookie each, neglecting the ability to purchase a magic 7 permitted cookies per person. I think if I lived in Amsterdam I’d binge on the full 7 per day if the queue didn’t stand in my way :) A fantastic business model. And also a genuinely friendly and impressive counter experience (congratulations!) from a woman who must get so sick of the monotony of selling the same product over and over to hoards of tourists, yet doesn’t show it. She must be intoxicated by those decadent warm cookie smells wafting around.....

We bought 5 of the T-shirts. Three of the bike in men's women and children's and then a bridge and a green/red one. They all are organic cotton but for a bit less money regular cotton is available in some colors. There is a small fitting room and I recommend all Americans use it because European adult sizes are consistently a size smaller. So a European L is an American M. No vanity sizing here. I don't mind the reference to the red light on an adult shirt but even though it is abstract I'm not forward thinking enough to put it on my children. However for pure attractiveness I think it is the most visually striking of the shirts. I think this is a great souvenir because it really captures the feeling of Amsterdam. If your souvenirs include: some chocolate sprinkles, cheese, some black tulips, miffy bunny stuffed animals, the mouse house kits and some art from the big museums then you need a shirt from here to round it out... Way better than a hard rock Amsterdam shirt but no one is stopping you from getting one of those as well.
