The wines have come a long way since the first time I tasted here. The Chardonnays' were really good and the reds provided you a good range of interesting and good wines. Very much a Bordeaux experience right down to the view overlooking Vasseux Lake. Bought an extra bottle of wine to enjoy with a picnic in a wonderful picnic area. The best place to enjoy a little relax on your wine tasting experience.

Synchromesh Wines

Reviewed By PrinceGastronome - Vancouver, Canada

Synchromesh commits many egregious sins, unforgivable ones in our modern viticulture. It dares to offer a simple corrugated steel winery with nary a flamboyant art piece or wasteful water feature. It’s tasting lounge is minuscule with no ration given to merchandise or paired picnic-fodder. It doesn’t offer the particulars all wineries must list. There are no Cabernet Sauvignons, Pinot Noirs, or Syrahs? Even its name is weird—not taken from its address or a simplistic nearby geographical feature. Synchromesh? Am I getting my car serviced? It can’t even be bothered to hire staff, forcing patrons to listen to the winemaker himself ramble on about how great his Rieslings are. That’s right, Rieslings…white wine. And not only that, but among the ten wines generally offered, six are Rieslings, limiting options to those wishing the standard fair. My God, I love this place. As for those Rieslings, I bought four. I thought the reds were offered because the owners felt they needed to. This is a perfect example of a winery knowing something well and throwing everything behind it in order to perfect that one impeccable variatel. It’s an example sadly so few follow, as such dedication usually comes at the expense of selection. I’d rather have that than a traditional winery just offering the staples. Just because there are six varietals of Riesling does not equate them being identical. Each one caters to a distinct palate, but each is strong in their own regard. I didn’t buy the same bottle twice. As for the name, love it. Talking with the owner directly as he poured samples, I’d have it no other way. The small tasting room, focused and without distraction. This is a winery that sells what it knows and it knows Riesling. It's not surprising that Synchromesh makes the best. That’s my declaration; they do the best Rieslings in the Okanagan. Do I have a sample size, or am I just being glib? From August 2016 to May 2017, my girlfriend and I visited over 100 BC wineries, so take that what you will. Synchromesh is one not to miss, regardless if you prefer whites or reds. The Rieslings will sway your opinion. If you still dislike it after the visit, then there is no hope—you will always see red. By the way, the day we arrived, it was over 34 degrees outside, but inside was an ice box. Thank you.

We walked along the lake shore to connect with the Kettle Valley Railway Trail. We walked north on the trail which in that area followed the lake closely. The trail was well graded and easily walk-able. It was very busy with runners, walkers and cyclists. A great place to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors.

My husband and I and another couple attended for a booked tasting last weekend. When we arrived our table was ready, the wine glasses were out and our hosts were ready to WOW us - which they did. Such knowledgeable staff, and they provided us with vertical tastings of their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines - along with some tasty bites that they paired perfectly with the wines. They have such an amazing array of these two varietals, which are all so different, due to the different vineyards and techniques. I can't say enough about this winery and can't wait to go back!

Blue Mountain Vineyard and Cellars

Blue Mountain is an estate dedicated to producing complex wines, consistent in style and quality from year to year. Located at south end of the valley with 31 hectares of vines planted, the property supplied grapes to other wineries for 21 years before the Mavety family founded the winery in 1991. In addition to Pinot Noir, the 12,000-case yearly production consists of Gamay Noir, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and a méthode traditionnel sparkling wine, all from estate grown grapes.

Blasted Church Vineyards

While everyone enjoys the wine and the view when they come to visit, the most asked question would have to be about our name...On a cool spring morning in 1929, a small crew from Okanagan Falls set off to a deserted mining camp some 16 miles away from home. Their mission: to dismantle an old wooden church and bring it back to Okanagan Falls. The plan called for a controlled blast of four dynamite sticks inside the church in order to "loosen the nails". Odd as it may seem, the explosion spared the wood from damage during dismantling.Save for losing the steeple, the plan succeeded. Now the 103 year old wooden church stands proudly in its second home of Okanagan Falls and is still an operating United Church. In keeping with its rather remarkable history, the church has since withstood the threat of two major floods, including the disastrous burst of the Okanagan Falls Dam in the early 1950's.In naming our VQA wines "Blasted Church" we celebrate the ingenuity of the initiative to move the church and honor those pioneers for their vision.

Blasted Church is the kind of place that you will be bragging about visiting for years to come. Besides having excellent wines, they have a great back story about the "Blasted Church" that they are named for. And delightfully irreverent wine names and merchandise! From their "Jesus Murphy" and "Big Bang", to "OMG" and even "OMFG" wines, they are a breath of fresh air from a stodgy Big Winery industry. As an added bonus, they have the "Chili Cheese Wagon...and Mac and Cheese Too" food truck onsite for the summer. You have not enjoyed Okanagan Wine Country until you have had a bowl of Lobster Mac 'n Cheese with a glass of Unorthodox Chardonnay on the patio at Blasted Church. The view is just a bit of heaven itself. The sign outside says "Come on in and and be converted". Well, I will freely admit that my two female companions and I were not only converted, we "saw the light" and had a most religious experience. Put this one on your list, it is a MUST visit!
