Ningbo (Chinese: 宁波; Mandarin pronunciation: [nǐŋ pwó] ( listen)), formerly written Ningpo, is a sub-provincial city in northeast Zhejiang province in China. It comprises the urban districts of Ningbo proper, three satellite cities, and a number of rural counties including islands in Hangzhou Bay and the East China Sea. Its port, spread across several locations, is among the busiest in the world and the municipality possesses a separate state-planning status. As of the 2010 census, the entire administrated area had a population of 7.6 million, with 3.5 million in the six urban districts of Ningbo proper. To the north, Hangzhou Bay separates Ningbo from Shanghai; to the east lies Zhoushan in the East China Sea; on the west and south, Ningbo borders Shaoxing and Taizhou respectively.

An ancient library turns into museum, this place is so calm and peaceful. Best to go during off peak season as it will be extremely crowded.

Tiantong Temple

Went there with a friend, it's a gentle walk to the temple, tree lined road history says the monk that build it prayed for something to happen to move the heavy tree trunks from the forest to the area. A rain followed the place closed and the trunks were used to build the temple. This place has everything, temples, monks, history, a big pagoda, an ancient tree, 2 lakes with huge fish living in it, and an original temple of 1700 years old which is hidden in the forest. Local hawkers for street food which is great, and shopping stalls including a couple selling 100% local pure honey!

Ningbo Museum

Reviewed By Synthomer - Shanghai, China

An eye catching and unusual - and successful - building set in a small park. The exhibits largely centre on local history (there was also a good one on Xinjiang) but there is plenty of it in Ningbo which has always been an important port and played an important role for most of Chinese history. The exhibits are beautifully and clearly displayed. There is quite a lot of English but not everything is translated but, unless you are a devotee, this doen't really matter. About 6km from the city centre, a RMB 20 taxi ride but definitely worth the detour, if you are in Ningbo. There is a small cafe on the roof

This building is the main heritage landmark in downtown Ningbo. It is fully open to the public. There is a commercial street at the back, not very authentic though.

Nantang Old Street

Reviewed By rhisag - San Juan Capistrano, United States

I have read a few other reviews about Nantang. No, it’s not old. So what? It’s beautiful. The architecture, plants, design, shops, food, facilities are great. The food aisle vendors provide diverse samples of local ingredients and the top rated dumpling store in Ningbo. We sampled so many great items: black bamboo ice cream, duria ice cream, stinky tofu, amazing soup crab dumplings, hemp crackers, etc. The shops offer some hand made Chinese goods, clothes, etc. A great way to get a sample of China in about 2 hours of leisurely strolling along a quant river.
