Museum is now closed for the winter but will reopen on 25 May. depending, of course, on the regulations at the time. When opening is possible we will continue to offer visitors the opportunity to book timed-entry visits, as well as being able to come in without pre-booking if the numbers in the Museum at the time permit it. Bookings are now available on Eventbrite. As you would expect, safe-distance requirements and all the other Covid-safe measures will be in place. The Museum gives a great insight into the woollen industry, its boom and bust cycles and the effect on the development and growth of Newtown during the 1800s. It covers the story of wool from fleece to flannel, and tells the story of the families who lived and worked in this rare building from that period. It opens during the summer months.

A really interesting building, which has much improved since being taken over from the local council. Every room was informative, with displays and artefacts, and the volunteer staff were friendly and happy to answer questions. A pity that some of the more interactive activities were not available, due to the Covid restrictions, but that cannot be helped in the current circumstances, and it didn't spoil our visit. Well worth a visit!!

I’ve visited this gallery dozens of times. There is always something new to look at. Sometimes I “don’t get it” other times I leave stimulated. Some high quality gifts and jewellery for sale plus a wonderful cafe full of homemade produce. I try to visit every time I’m in Newtown.

Warm and welcoming, this Newtown pub is full of character and almost always busy from opening to closing and normally full of lively chatter and laughter. Always a good selection of real ales from the local Monty's Brewery, and choice of ciders. I'm not a big drinker as I'm usually the designated driver, but I do like a nice little tipple now and again, and The Sportsman delivers. It's a loved gathering spot for locals, just off the main streets so this gem of a place is a hidden prize. No food is served by the establishment other than crisps, peanuts, pork rinds etc.. but there are at least 4 takeaway restaurants on the same block, I believe they don't mind if you eat it in the pub. Pool table and darts and lots of local characters to rub shoulders with, and refreshingly, NO KIDS! No swearing allowed sign when you walk in the door! Lovely, patient staff, well informed drink suggestions too.

An amazing place to stay and eat and to experience the art on display or take courses. Breakfast was splendid with all local produce, or home made. We enjoyed looking round the Enamoured exhibition of the British Society of Enamellers.

Great to see the original frontage and wooden shelving and paneling of the original store - whilst still full of all the books, stationery, cards and maps you expect from W H Smiths!
