Cranfield Beach

Reviewed By Newryoneisback - Newry, United Kingdom

It's been simply years since we've been here but a relative recently took the plunge by buying a mobile home and nestling in near the sand and sea. It was a sunny day thankfully with a nippy breeze. We walked along the sand with the kids playing merrily. Despite it being pleasant and scenically beautiful I guess there were only about 10 people on the beach. The local council have also installed a play zone for kids; the usual swings, slides, see - saw and so on. If it has a down-side it's the lack of a coffee place or cafe but I understand why there isn't one as there simply isn't the demand.

Slieve Gullion Forest Park

Slieve Gullion Forest Park offers the unmissable opportunity to experience tranquil woodland trails, stunning views across the Ring of Gullion and surrounding landscape and top class facilities for walkers and families. Play in the Adventure Playpark; explore the Giant’s Lair in the wonderful Hawthorn Hill Forest Nature Reserve and woodland trails, or sit back in the cafe and watch nature.

Absolutely love this park. Free parking and entry, with a playground, cafe and facilities available.
However, the fairy trail is fantastic! icing on the cake - the trail up the mountain exploring all the fairy houses and then the playgorund up at the top where the giants lair is. Wooden play ground and tree houses were amazing. My nieces loved it. Well Well Well worth the visit.

Newry Cathedral

Reviewed By Newryoneisback - Newry, United Kingdom

We spotted an historical tour of this Cathedral on the city's Main Street so we thought we'd go to learn something and it didn't disappoint. It was really captivating. Really folks it is for you if you have no faith or if you are from any faith. It's also free. There were two tour guides. Desmond & Michael. They were so welcoming and sincere. The former seemed more knowledgable and easier to hear going around. They handled questions with detailed answers. It's clear they act out of love and enthusiasm here and these are qualities you can't buy. I don't want to spoil the tour but a 4th century pope Celestine I, a marquis, 5 pelicans, Jewish Germans who converted to Christianity, English glassmakers and Cork carpenters all play significant roles in the unfolding near 200 year history of this silent, living wonder. Our tour lasted over two hours and I suspect there's two more hours left to hear. Apparently they do other types of tour but I want to do this one again.

Disappointed for the second year running, we have been coming to Formula Karting for I don't know how many years running now and have been extremely let down the last 2 years, mainly due to very very rude and ignorant 'staff'. Was also very unorganised as we were waiting for just over 1 hour on the staff to gather themselves, finish with one group and get our group of 20+ organised.
However, good tracks and nice karts if you don't mind being spoken to like dirt.
Unfortunately, can easily say we won't be back in the future! Would rather give the money to another professional business with members of staff who know how to treat regular customers correct.

This small museum has a fascinating collection of items relating to local history. The exterior structure of elegant modern design surrounds the historic core of Bagenal's Castle. It is really worth the detour to see the ancient Banquet room that is regularly used for seminars and courses. The exhibits are clearly labelled in both English and Irish. The ground floor has a helpful tourist information office and a shop with interesting local products. Entrance is free and employees are friendly, knowledgeable and happy to answer questions.

The best views, the best stuffed chicken I've ever had and I never knew there were so many different ways to cook potatoes! Think I'm going to move to Ireland! When 2 of us couldn't decide upon a desert to share we asked the waitress to surprise us, thinking she would just bring something from the menu...service with a smile and wee chatter. A really pleasant experience, thank you!

Narrow Water Castle

Narrow Water Castle is a truly magical venue for a wedding. Originally built in 1816, by Thomas Duff, a well known architect, it is the home of the Hall family who have lived at Narrow Water since 1670. The estate extends to over 700 acres, and is a beautiful setting, overlooking Carlingford Lough and the Cooley Mountains.

lovely venue, very picturesque. I was here for my friends wedding, beautiful ceremony, terrific day. Outside catering needed but great venue for big grand occasions. I'm told some of the hip locals also organise indie/ rock gigs here. perfect use for such a beautiful back drop. I should also advise that there are local legends of ghost sightings here. There was a massacre on this spot in the early 90s and its supposedly haunted on the night of the massacre. In summary, this castle has architecture, history, grandiose, glamour oh and ghosts - something for everyone right?

Ballymacdermot Cairn

Reviewed By dunadan - Lynnwood, WA

We saw a sign for the Ballymacdermot Cairn, and having some time on our journey north to the Antrim coast, we decided to follow it and see where it led us, as we had learned during our short time in country that the brown signs usually lead to interesting things. The road took us down a country lane barely wide enough for our car, up a hillside with an extremely tight turn which led us across a hillside where we nearly drove past the small sign and grass-covered stone slabs marking the cairn.
While the remains of the cairn aren't much to look at, learning about why they were positioned as they were, and what was found inside them really kept our interest. We left fascinated with the history behind this seemingly innocuous collection of green rocks, and in awe at just how many of these filled the countryside around us.

Killevy Churches

Reviewed By Scousemaid - Liverpool, United Kingdom

A must on any tour- but as Killeavy is in a back water it is often overlooked. There are no tourist attraction there just the authentic 11th and 15th century churches built on the site of a monastery from the 6th century. The tourist noticeboards give a history of the site and it is a beautiful peaceful place. If you are feeling in need of exercise and spirtual healing there is a short walk up the slopes of Slieve Gullion to St Monina's Well.

The book sections are very well laid out, the Reading area is nice and relaxing and the computer and WiFi facilities upstairs is very popular.
Very helpful staff. All in all it really is worth a visit
