Arlington Arts Centre

Reviewed By SUSANH182 - Nassau, Caribbean

Our first visit to Arlington, it was fantastic. Booked online and picked up tickets on the night at the box office. An intimate venue, about 300 seats, so be sure to book early. Performers were both excellent as was the supporting act, a privilege to see such talent in this venue. Also took advantage of the delicious discounted meal at the Fox and Hounds just down the road (see separate review).

ExCLUEsive Games Escape Rooms

Berkshire No.1 immersive and theatrical live Escape Room Games Experience located in Newbury, Berkshire. It's a must do experience. Excellent way to enjoy a fun 60 minutes adventure with your family, friends, colleagues or others. Are you ready for the challenge?

Had an amazing time playing the wild West room with a few of my friends, some of the puzzles were incredibly inventive and the room really made us work as a team, which was fun. Janos was a great host, giving just the right amount of hints to keep things fun. Also, in this place if you don't finish you can get an explanation of where you went wrong and how much you had left, which is very interesting. Overall a great experience and will come back when the new room opens in 2020.

Shaw House

Built in 1581 by Newbury clothier Thomas Dolman this fine Elizabethan building was recently restored through a £6million project. The stories and characters from Shaw House’s varied past are bought to life in the new exhibition. An ideal day out for families; Wheelie Do activities are located throughout the house, with activities from designing the gardens to playing our Civil War board game. Exciting and varied events program. Open most weekends.

Reviewed By Dakles - Southampton, United Kingdom

We only discovered this place because our daughter was getting married and the registry office is located here. The building is a superb Elizabethan mansion situated in lovely grounds on the outskirts of Newbury. Sadly, the interior is now closed due to Covid but the cafe and toilets are still available. Under normal circumstances there are public opening times for a series of exhibition rooms where you can learn the story of the house and view art exhibitions and the like. Picnics are allowed in the grounds and there is a large car park.

Sandham Memorial Chapel

Reviewed By brizy83 - Newbury, United Kingdom

The Sandham Memorial Chapel was built in 1926 and houses the WW1 war art of Stanley Spencer. There is also a gift shop and, when we went, a pop-up retro tea shop. Though this is not usually there. Spencer's artworks are well worth seeing as they contain examples of soldiers undertaking the mundane, everyday tasks of life at the front.

The Lion

The Lion Newbury is a traditional pub offering a warm welcome. Serving traditional pub food using locally sourced produce. We also offer up to 6 ales including 2 guest ales. Hosting regular live music events and showing BT and Sky Sports.

Reviewed By GLWayne - Newbury, United Kingdom

Considering I have to walk past almost every pub in the town centre to get to the Lion, I always make an effort to drop in for at least one when on a night out. With the bar as the central point it's hard to not immediately feel like you're in a proper pub, and Kev, Sam and the rest of the guys always make you feel welcome - whether a regular of a first timer. Pool table, Juke Box, TVs, ale and spirits selection, covered outside area and occasional live music just keep adding plus points to this place - it's worth the short walk from the market place just for something a bit more traditional. This was my first visit since the lockdown and they have arranged everything really nicely - opting to go for screens at the bar rather than table service which keeps the more social feeling of the central bar and really makes it stand out from other Newbury pubs during these restricted periods.

The Gun

Reviewed By Mandy1905 - Newbury, United Kingdom

We have been to The Gun Indian takeaway a few times now (we have never eaten in). The takeaway food is excellent, very fresh, well cooked, good portion sizes and very tasty. A good choice of food and has all the classic currys with some different specials. The online booking is very good and means that a takeaway can be ordered even when they are not open, for a specific time for later in the day. This really speeds things up, as on a Friday and Saturday night they can be extremely busy and the wait quite long if your order is not booked in advance. The pub looks quite scruffy on the inside and abit chaotic at the bar with people ordering takeaways, people wanting drinks and waiters trying to serve the customers eating in. However the food makes up for this. Definitely recommend The Gun as one of the best Indian takeaways in Newbury.
