St. Ephraim Monastery

Reviewed By Joseph G - Montreal, Canada

St. Ephraim Monastery set in the middle of an olive grove is a place of pilgrimage to a Saint known for his miracles especiallly for people praying for the healing of illnesses
Venerated as a martyr and miracle-maker, brother Ephraim is believed to have lived from 1384 to 1426 when he was tortured and killed (hung from a tree) by the Turks. His status as a Saint is however controversial as there are no sources testifying to his existence as a historical person but believers regard him as a "newly revealed" Saint whose existence is a matter of divine revelation.
The complex is a stone structure with nice vegetation and makes for an easy and peaceful visit.

The zoo park store is messy and filthy, . The conditions where animals are kept, are appalling. Almost all animals where caged in minimum space, suffering from the ''cage syndrome''. Overall, I would highly advise visitors to avoid this zoo park

National Observatory of Athens - Penteli

Reviewed By ThanosFot - Athens, Greece

Once you are in Athens, a visit here could render you night unique. First thing you have to do is to check in the website when your visit could be carried out. Then if weather conditions are good (which is not a rare thing in Athens) you should go there and you will gain an interesting and beautiful evening. Please note that although the staff (e.g. Professors, assistants etc) speaks English, the presentations are in Greek, therefore it is better to go with a Greek friend if you don't speak the language. The entrance fee is only 5 Euros and your visit will be consisted of 3 parts. In the first part you will watch a documentary on universe and astronomy, in the second some Professors will make some presentations about Astronomy and the Observatory and in the third and most "magical" part you will go upstairs in order to look through (all the visitors) the telescope. Depending on season, weather conditions etc you might see the Moon, Jupiter, a star, maybe a comet and many more. If the crowd is not big you will have more time to watch. At the end you can stay outside the building for a while to watch the beautiful view of Athens in the night. Before the presentation you could also have some snack or coffee in the café enjoying the view. In the near by area there also restaurants and cafes and some other attractions such as one of the houses of the Duchess of Placentia. I have been there 3 times so far and definitely I would go again. One time is not enough.

Had the place did not have play areas dedicated for children our visit would have went in vain. Good thing there a nice park just next to the outlet mall.
Another advantage is that you could visit this place the same day you visit the zoo.
Did not get lucky while shopping however, kids got pretty lucky while playing :)
