Always enjoyable to visit the medina Less hassle than in Marrakesh Corona has hit the medina and significant places have ceased trading or closed for reductions of the transmission. Which in turn has increased the poverty a bit but not threatening just quite sad to have been before the pandemic and thoroughly enjoyed every area. There is hope in the town and it’s a beautiful place with friendly people Always happy to return

Nicely designed and maintained gardens, similar to those of Generalife in Granada, Spain. It’s a good place to recoup from the intensity of the market atmosphere.

Le Jardin Secret

The riad-museum Le Jardin Secret is one of the largest and most ancient palaces of the medina of Marrakech. It is a place that has kept ancient structures intact that are of an extraordinary cultural value, linked to the art of gardens, architecture and Arab hydraulics. Popularly known as Riad Loukrissi, it has been the sumptuous residence of the Qaid U-Bihi who was the head of the Haha tribe. The riad rises up in the Mouassine quarter (on the main thoroughfare and but a few steps away from the Mouassine fountain and Mouassine Mosque), and comprises two large gardens and one of the highest towers of the medina. The museum provides you with a wealth of historical information about Marrakech's architecture, water, and gardens. You will also find a boutique, a bookshop and two cafes inside Le Jardin Secret. The cafes offer you up fresh, homemade products that you can eat in lush and peaceful settings.

André Heller's ANIMA is a magical place of surprising beauty that you wouldn't expect in the loud and crowded area of greater Marrakech. It's not only a garden: it's an impressive botanical staging. 250+ types of plants, from bamboo over palms and cacti, interact with pieces of art by Pablo Picasso, Keith Haring, undiscovered local talents and many more. Furthermore, two museum rooms present artists from around the world. Our own Café Paul Bowles offers meals made with spices and ingredients from the garden like saffron, mint, olives, etc. Enjoy fresh organic fruit juice, fine teas and delicious pastries...

A must see site when visiting Marrakech. The grounds are kind the mosque are beautiful. The inside of the Mosque is equally beautiful with stunning architecture. The mosque is the prominent site in Medina and can be seen from most places. Bring a Muslim, I attended Friday prayers at the mosque and would highly recommend this to any Muslim visitors. Be advised to get there early however, as it does get extremely busy.

Medina of Marrakesh

Reviewed By carolinec721 - Philadelphia, United States

The "medina" is used to refer both to the central square, Djemaa el-Fna, and the whole area of shops, restaurants and residences enclosed by the 12th century city walls -- but both are things that you come to Marrakesh to see. Not to see them would be like going to Paris and skipping the Eiffel Tower. The souks of the medina constitute miles and miles of fascinating crowded intersecting lanes or passageways -- sometimes a little dangerous as motorcycles interweave with pedestrians, donkey carts, and hand-drawn carts. The variety of goods on offer in the souks and the cleverness and colorfulness of the displays are worth it even if you aren't an avid shopper. There is not too much harassment --that is, vendors try to get your attention but leave you alone if you indicate you're not interested. We were two women traveling alone, and never felt harassed (as women) or in danger (though everyone warns you to be on the alert for pickpockets).
