I loved the hike - the views are stunning, so if You like taking pictures this is beautiful hike - especially if You start early and catch the sun rise????We started at 6 am from pico de Arieiro and reached Pico de Ruivo at 9:30. The hike was challenging at times as there was some steep hikes plus I was almost 6 months pregnant but it was definitely worth it. I loved the experience.

The tiles exhibited amidst the tropical vegetation represent several ages, coming from palaces, churches, chapels and private houses throughout the former Portuguese empire. These are much more than just great tropical gardens: there are sculptures, great displays of tile-work, exhibitions (gem stones and Zimbabwean sculptures, when we were there), koi carp in profusion, a superb display of hundreds of orchids, a romantic Romeo and Juliet balcony and strand, waterfalls and fountains everywhere. A couple of cafes too. Absolutely excellent and really well worth a visit - just remember it’s a lon way above the town and often a fair bit cooler. Thoroughly recommended.

One of the most beautiful and memorable hiking trails I've done. The vegetation among us is green and the actual 25 waterfalls are with the walk.

We have visited the pools after the volcanic caves tour. Entrance fee to the pools is about 1.5 euros for an adult and 0.5 for children. It worth the visit to see the beautiful waves crashing onto the volcanic rocks forming natural ocean pools. The water during December was freezing and only few brave people went in. The kids though were fascinated of the black crabs climbing on the rocks. A very nice 2 hours to pass with kids even in the winter months.

Faja dos Padres

An out-of-the world organic farm comprising 9 rental cottages, a beach and a restaurant, located by the sea in Madeira island southern coast. Access to the property is done exclusively by a cable car that takes you down a huge cliff with more than 300 m to Faja dos Padres, or by boat.

Amazing place to relax and discover Madeira. The only way to get to Faja dos Padres is by cablecar that takes you down one of the most beautiful cliffs of Madeira. It operates all day long until 19:00 hours and then between 21:00 and 22:00 h. My house Julia was immediately at the sea on the cliff with a breathtaking view and with my own terrace with a lot of privacy. A lot of reading there in the sun, when I wasn't discovering the island, and enjoying the sunset every night. Faja dos Padres has its own biological farm where they grow vegetables and fruit. You'll walk in between the fruittrees to your house and to the restaurant. So in their restaurant, again immediately at the sea with a beautiful view, you always get fresh biological fruit and vegetables... and of course fresh fish. The only disadvantage is that they often already close at 17:00 hours. It would be great if that would change to at least 19:00 h. The team of Faja dos Padres is always available for questions. Tip: ask the manager Bruno for tips to discover the island. I've seen a lot of beautiful places all over the island because of that.

If you want to witness the sunrise, be early (minimum of 10-20 min prior to sunrise) to get a good spot and bring some warm clothes, it's high up and if there's wind, it's really cold! If you want to hike afterward, be sure to have proper shoes (sneakers if tight are okay) and be aware that it is part wise really steep but still secure. If you are prepared well, it is a great hike and really really unique!

Truly beautiful walk. From the car park to the end and back, including a sit down for our sandwiches it took about 4 hours. It’s a beautiful walk (with some slightly scarier parts). A torch will be needed. I wouldn’t say a guide is necessary.
