Picowines, located in the village of Madalena, started production in 1961 with 51 members. Initially, it was built with the intention of vinifying a white liqueur wine, however, it was also necessary to proceed with the vinification of American grape varieties, from which the well-known "wine of smell" was obtained, introduced in the region after the devastation of powdery mildew and phylloxera.
