Ned's Beach

Reviewed By cforcolin - Melbourne, Australia

We swam here every day . The water temperature was excellent and you can snorkel amongst the coral and all the fish. You can hire umbrellas, wet suits boards flippers and snorkel gear at the beach on an honour system. They also have a dispensing machine for fish food. If you don’t want to sit on the sand, there’s a wonderful grassed area with some shade only metres from the beach. A must if you are on the Island.

Lagoon Beach

Reviewed By Ann L - Melbourne, Australia

Snorkelling in the Lagoon via a boat trip was fantastic, the coral Gardens and sea life is amazingly beautiful and varied. Quite often when just floating in the water you would see schools of little fish come to investigate the water just below you or just below the surface of the water.

Lord Howe Island Walking Trails

Reviewed By themudgeerambler - Mudgee, Australia

there are a lot of well marked trails on Lord Howe and there is a good map available to show you where they all are. Choose walks to your ability and fitness. I would not tackle Mount Gower for instance without being fit, confident and not afraid of heights. Its not really a walk its more like a climb with a lot sections accessible only with the use of the ropes provided! Note: you must go on a guided tour to Mt Gower, there are 2 providers at present. Walks are generally Thursday, Monday and wednesday.
There are also easy walks to do and each has its own rewards. The Malabar walk is rated 4 (5 is the highest ie Mt Gower) and has some steep sections but the track is well defined and a lot of steps have put in place, making it easier. It easier starting the walk near Nrds Beach. The views from the Malabar lookout on the cliffs is spectacular, particularly if you can see the swarming Tropic Birds flying intheir thousands just in front of you. Suggest you continue to Kims Lookout and then back down to Settlement Beach.
Transit Hill is easier and there is an elevated platform for good views around the island. Continue on to Blinkys Beach for a paddle and a swim if its not too wild.
Easier still is the Clear Place walk which is a good stroll through rainforest.
Do as many as your fitness and time will allow you!

We did an Advanced Open Water course with Pro Dive LHI this year. It was a great choice. We significantly improved our skills (especially buoyancy) and learned a lot (exercises with a compass and "towel walking" were funny but effective). Aaron is a very professional...MoreThank you very much for your kind words and acknowledgement of our well rounded team. We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your course and your time spent on the island and look forward to your return! Cheers, Aaron and team.

Whilst quite small, we found the exhibits well presented and very informative. It covers the creation of the island through to the early settlements. I found the exhibit regarding the flying boat prior to the construction of the airport interesting as we flew on it to Lord Howe 50years ago!

We did the 2 hour Glass bottom boat Coral and snorkeling tour and it was very well priced...in fact amazing given the prices of everything else on the island.
We saw oodles of sea life and and corals with excellent commentary. We were provided wet suits at no additional cost which we were pleased to accept.
Certainly would recommend this outing.
