Birute Park

If you ever in Palanga this is a must go place. Park is big and clean with a lot of bins around and really lovely atmosphere. You can see various different plants and flowers here and it has some really nice looking garden areas. There is a Birutes hill here a hill where old pagans used to live and do their rituals. There is a direct access to the beach from park and this park is a truly nice place to go for a walk and chill.

KGB Museum (Genocido Auku Muziejus)

Reviewed By Impavid574

A must-do visit if ever there was one. A tangible insight into the potential for man's inhumanity to man. The water torture cells were somehow the worst of it, but what jars is the fact that the building is in a city centre street which passers-by must have walked alongside while the unfortunates inside were enduring their nightmares. It helps give you an understanding of the very public way Lithuanians express their religious devotion - to get through the Soviet occupation and the Gestapo interlude must have required an extraordinary faith in the possibility of a better life. This is education in its rawest form and not to be missed

Open Air Museum of Lithuania is a unique and one of the largest (195 ha) open-air ethnographic museums in Europe. It has the biggest quantity of exhibits (90820 exhibits). The museum presents the mode of life, works, and traditions of peasants and townspeople of all Lithuanian ethnographic areas: Dzūkija, Aukštaitija, Suvalkija, Žemaitija and Lithuania Minor. It was established in 1966, in Rumšiškės on a picturesque coast of Kaunas Lagoon. There are fragments of the villages, authentic farms, century-old buildings with flower gardens, orchards and vegetable gardens, with crosses and wooden roofed poles, technical facilities - mills, forges, a fulling-mill and oil-mill lining along 7 km circular route, meandering between forests, meadows and hills. In the centre of the museum there is a fragment of a township with its typical buildings, where pots are shaped, amber and wood works are done and weaving process of linen is presented. The painful past of Lithuanian history is reminded in the sector of Deportation and Resistance. The guided tours, educational programs, calendar feasts, folk group concerts are being organized in the museum, horseback riding club.

Ninth Fort

Reviewed By andTilly - Bratislava, Slovakia

You can walk around the place even if the musem is closed. It takes at least 30 min to see everything just from the outside - and it’s nice to go after hours - less crowded and you get to see it anyway. The area is large, clean and cared for. From the top of the fort (it looks like a little hill) there is a nice view over the city, though it’s a very sad place, knowing that tens of thousands souls ceased the exist here, and the remains lay under your feet. P.S. Dogs are not allowed at all, and there are no trash bins on the site.

National M. K. Ciurlionis Art Museum

Reviewed By PetraTre - Helsinki, Finland

I have never before been to a museum where a staff member comes to ask if I would like to hear music composed by the artist. The woman was very polite and advised me to sit down in the concert hall and listen to the symphony I had chosen. I spent about a half an hour listening to it. It was beautiful, and also relaxing after a long day. The artwork of Ciurlionis was touching and skillful, with many layers and interesting (also sad) themes. A great visit!

Gate of Dawn

Reviewed By JudyB528 - Appleton, United States

We went into the entrance off the street and walked up the stairs, not realizing what we would see. We entered a small room where the picture is and quite a number of people were on their knees praying to the Blessed Virgin. It is something to see it from the street, but do go inside to get the full experience.

Church Of St Peter And St Paul

Reviewed By VWriter - Los Gatos, United States

The exterior of this church stands out for its architecture. Reminiscent of Italianate design, Sts Peter and Paul has high towers, is sandy yellow and is trimmed in white; while maroon tile roofing completes the picture. As striking as its exterior is, it's the interior that grabbed my attention. This church is gleaming white inside; there is stucco and marble everywhere you look. Sculptures, paintings, and frescoes adorn the 13 chapels, high ceilings, nave and altar area. Pretty overwhelming.
