Lib'Escape

Château de Sales is one of the few Bordeaux estates to have been passed on intact from one generation to the next ever since the late 15th century. The Château itself, built in 1647 and unchanged since, was given historical monument status in 1996. With over 47.6 hectares of the 90-hectare estate under vines, Château de Sales has the largest vineyard in the Pomerol appellation. The two Château de Sales wines are the expression of their terroir: fruit-driven, round and full-bodied with silky tannins, smoothness and elegance. They reflect the perfect match between the grape varieties used, predominantly Merlot with some Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, and the estate’s gravelly, sandy soil. Come and discover an exceptional heritage and a unique family history. Visits on reservation.

We visited this winery as a 3 generation family (aged 67 to 10 months!) and were immediately greeted with a warm and friendly welcome. We’ve been on a few winery tours before but never had the pleasure of being shown round by the owner themselves! This made it a very unique experience. The vineyard has been in the family for 3 generations and it was fantastic to hear about the family history. It was also a great way to spend some time on a very hot afternoon - the wine cellars were nice and cool :-)
