His Uncle Phi's wife Pat invited us to come here! Very clean,had smoke eaters, but wasn't very busy. We all talked, drank and then ordered food, very good! Didn't have my flavor of Redd's but that's ok. Plus they have our p-touch game, so we will definitely go back, not too far from home!

Nice venue, additional seating upstairs & on the enclosed porch to have lunch after you're done tasting! Friendly & knowledgeable staff. Only downside: Tasting is the most expensive I've encountered (and have visited wineries in many states); $10 for 6. Try the Beach Glass & Petite Sirah for sure...

Staff is very friendly and the curator has helped me in the past when I did research. Many items have a local county connection. Along with the county historical collection is a privately owned display of antique and vintage automobiles. I highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

If you enjoy art, you will love this chapel. It's right across from the Brauer Art Museum and you can do both in less than an hour. Beautiful architecture. I think I heard it's the largest Chapel on a campus in the United States. It's way bigger than an ordinary church. Pick up s brochure in the lobby which explains the stained glass. It is free. There's only a charge for some specific concerts here. Open to the public daily. Short prayer service like 10-11 am weekdays.

We were pleasantly surprised by the beauty of this beach, the large expanse of beach and the very beautiful walkway that runs alongside it. Benches to just sit and look or actually go onto the beach. In this same area, is a Lighthouse Museum, which is a wonderful look into the past of this entire area and the lifestyle of the inhabitants. A very informative docent will explain any questions you may have and describe in detail what is contained there.

chicago is equidistant to both Indiana and Wisconsin so since apple season is here, might as well have some fun! Apple picking is an activity found at apple farms. Apple orchards may be opened to the public, allowing consumers to pick their own apples or purchase pre-picked apples. Although this is ultimately a method of purchasing apples, it is often a social activity as well. Apple picking is often a very popular dating ritual in the American Midwest.
Being an all year round you pick area for fresh fruits and vegetables on season, Garwood farms has a giant tractor that you tag along to ride to the U pick areas for picking up assorted fruits and vegetables in season located around their sprawling 400 acre (128 hectares) farm and you can just pick any amount of fruits or veggies that you fancy and they will weight it at the market store for the price. The tractor will be a bumpy ride but you will feel the rustic ambiance in riding it hehehe.
You can get many kinds of varieties of apples that you can pick and eat at about 1.20 US Dollars a Pound (454 grams).
the also have an in house gelato store and Bakeshop, specializing in fried doughnuts and you can have unlimited free cups of fresh apple juice from their complimentary apple juice dispenser.
You don't need to spend money to get driving directions to an area, just pres the directions on your gps system (thank you garmin!) or via google maps on your smart phone or even waze and you are set. Driving to Garwood Farms from Chicago will be a breeze. Garwood Orchards & Farm Market is located near La Porte, Indiana. Approximately 75 minutes east of downtown Chicago, IL and 50 minutes west of downtown South Bend but you must be ready to pay tolls are not all the highways are freeways!

It wasn't clear where the best parking was as you can't see the lighthouse from the parking lots and there were lots of them. We stopped at the beach and it was such lovely sand. We walked to the water and saw the lighthouse but didn't get to go on the pier. All it all it was a good place to stop!

They offer guided tours at 1:00 Tuesday through Saturday. We arrived at 11 so did the self-guided tour for which they provided a laminated sheet that basically includes the information presented on the tour. The young man at the desk was very enthusiastic and eager to answer any questions you might have.The mansion contained most of the original furniture because the daughter had it put in storage until she donated it to the museum. The mansion was part of Purdue University for some period of time and it was difficult to imagine it in that capacity. I am glad so much of it was preserved.

This courthouse is very impressive with its clock tower and 272 glass paneled skylight. Located smack dab in the downtown center -- most prominent red brick building built in 1832.
