The trail is a few kilometres in total. It is like a circle around a small stream. It is a dense forest with some really tall trees but the path is wide enough for a few people to walk side by side.

This facility is re-opening at the end of 2020 with a new access Road and a new carparking facility. Tomies Wood is a Natural Oak Woodland within Killarney National Park, on the Western shore of Loouh Lein, it can be reached from Killarney by taking the N72 (Ring of Kerry road) from Killarney towards Fossa after passing The Hotel Europe you will then pass through Fossa village, after approximately 6.6Km's take a left towards The Gap of Dunloe and Glencar L4040, you will pass a bridge over the River Laune, which drains the Lakes of Killarney to the sea. Approximately 1Km from the bridge take a left turn up a hill which is signposted for Lough Lein, Tomies Wood and car park will be signposted from here. There is a loop walk around the wood and within the area you will see O' Sullivan's cascade a beautiful waterfall flowing into Lough Lein allow approximately 3.5 hours for this walk which is categorized as easy, walking shoes or boots are advised, expect to see native Red Deer or Sika Deer.
