You can find out all about the history of Tapa in this museum, whose exhibits provide an overview of Tapa as a sausage, railway and military town. Every month there are special exhibitions marking special days, activities and events in the town.

This place is a real gem, it’s an archive into Tapa’s past. Well laid out and presented, the staff were friendly despite the language barrier. I’d recommend anyone that’s going to Tapa visits this place to learn about the history of this quiet crossroads in Estonia. Also, it’s free.

The museum is located in the building of the former parish school that was built in the 19thC. The exposition introduces the rich cultural heritage of the Vaike-Maarja parish. Vaike-Maarja is the birthplace of Georg Lurich and Alar Kotli. Anton Hansen Tammsaare and Tuudur Vettik studied here. There is also a unique exhibition devoted to the history of the Vaike-Maarja Kolkhoz from the establishment of this collective farm to its dissolution.

The interactive Estonian Police Museum gives visitors the chance to experience the work of police in a fun way for themselves. You can test your reaction skills at the wheel of a car, try on a police uniform, learn what to do to cope with civil unrest, take someone's fingerprints, solve criminal cases and more! The Children's Police Museum is designed for the littlest visitors, where they can learn safety rules for being out and about on the streets, play detective games, make things and have a whole heap of fun in the playroom.
